As requested, we visited are providing a summary of our construction observation for the recent
development performed on the subject site. We were provided with a City of Edmonds Special
Inspection and Testing Agreement (Permit Number BLD2024-0036) indicating Ages Engineering was to
perform special inspections during development. The Special Inspection item listed on the agreement is
described as "Soils as per Geotechnical Engineer Report".
The conclusions and recommendations presented in this letter are based on our understanding of
the above stated site and the planned project design features. If actual site conditions differ, the planned
project design features are different than we expect, or if changes are made, we should review them in
order to modify or supplement our conclusions and recommendations as necessary.
SITE CONDITIONS
The subject site is an irregular -shaped, 0.27-acre, residential parcel located in Edmonds,
Washington. The site is currently occupied with a single-family residence located in the approximate
center of the site. The site is bordered by residential parcels to the east, west and south, and Olympic
View Drive to the north. Access to the site is provided by Olympic View Drive located along the north
side of the site. The approximate location of the site is shown on the Site Vicinity Map provided in Figure
1.
The walkway from the driveway parking area to the front door of the residence was recently
remodeled. The previous configuration consisted of a concrete staircase and walkway with various
rockeries along its side. Currently, the old concrete walkway and stairs have been removed. The concrete
along the walking surface was replaced with pavers, and the rockeries along the sides of the walkway
were replaced with segmental block walls. The walls have been founded on a layer of crushed rock

overlying the native tan silty sand with gravel on the site. The front yard of the site is currently
landscaped with a few scattered bushes, small trees and a grass lawn.
DISCUSSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Based on the results of our data review, site reconnaissance, and our site examination, it is our
opinion the walls and walkway have been founded on subgrade soil consisting of native silty sand with
gravel and sand with silt and gravel consistent with Advance Outwash.
The new walkway and segmental block walls have been constructed in accordance with the project
specifications and Ages Engineering recommendations.

NOTES: An Ages Engineers representative visited the site to observe the subgrade soil for the new retaining walls and
walkway on the site. At the time of our site visit, the work was complete.
To examine the wall subgra a soils, we examined several photographs taken during construction and using

those photos chose areas to excavate_ shallow test holes to verify the soils observed in the photos is the same as the
soils observed today during our examination.
The photographs clearly showed the old concrete walkway, and rockeries were removed from the new alignment. The
exposed subgrade soils were tan and looked like silty sand. Gravel constituents were also evident in the photos. The new
alignment followed the previous alignment, so it was obvious that all of the old walkway was removed. We excavated several
test holes along both side of the new walkway and segmental block_ retaining walls. We observed native silty sand with gravel__
and sand with silt and gravel consistent with Advance Outwash in all locations.
The walls appeared straight and level, the embedment appeared sufficient. The walkway surfacepeared straight and
level. We observed no areas of instability. The walkway and segmental block walls appear to have been constructed in
accordance with the project plans and the recommendations_provided by Engineering during the Design Phase of the
project development. _
