I was asked to prepare and arborist's report and tree protection plan for the above site. I visited the site
on 5.4.2022.
Overview: This is a new construction SFH on a subdivided, larger lot. On the new lot, are 12 significant
trees. Please see inventory for details on these trees. Please see site plan for exact locations of proposed
tree protection measures, locations of existing trees on site. Trees to be removed will be crossed out
and ghosted.
Reasons for Tree Removal: Trees to be removed are in poor condition due to damage, disease or
structural defect. We intend to preserve all trees possible.
Tree Retention Calculations: We will preserve 66% of the number of trees onsite, or 56% of DBH inches.
133" total inches-59" removed=74 inches to remain/133=56%.
Condition Key for Tree Inventory
Good= in reasonable health and structure, no major issues, expected to withstand
development and survive 10 years or more. Viable for preservation
Fair= in reasonable health and structure with 1 or more disease processes or structural
issues evident. Most likely survive 10 years or more. Viable for preservation
Poor= in declining health and vigor. Having major disease or structural flaws. Not
expected to survive long term. Not Viable for preservation.
Dead= little or no living tissue. Represents a hazard if valuable targets are within
Strike zone. Do not preserve
Invasive= Determined by the city arborist to be undesirable. Do not preserve

Tree Preservation Plan:
We intend to use silt fencing staked in place as tree protection fencing. Fencing will be placed by the
trunk diameter method of 1" DBH=1' diameter CRZ, Critical Root Zone. CRZ=TPZ.
It is acceptable in most circumstances to reduce the area with in TPZ,(Tree Protection Zone) by 25% in
area. This may need to occur if a drainage system is required along the north property line, close to the
row of maple trees. Most are 7" DBH. Using trunk diameter method (1" DBH=1' diameter CRZ, CRZ=TPZ)
So 7' diameter, TPZ or 3.5' radius, with a 25% reduction on one side, would equal 1.75' radius on one
side only of the TPZ measurement. This reduction will not affect these trees longevity, windfastness or
health. This is especially allowable when the remaining 75% of the roots beyond the CRZ are left
untouched.
TPZ General Guidelines
TPZ fencing should be installed before any demolition is to commence.
TPZ fencing should be 4' orange safety fencing
No materials or equipment should be stored within the TPZ.
If heavy equipment needs to traverse the TPZ then plywood or 4" of gravel should be laid down
beforehand, then removed asap.
Fencing should remain in place until the landscaping phase of the project.
During the landscaping phase of the project, only hand implements should be used within the TPZ
Only soil disturbance to 4" is allowed within the CRZ, with exceptions to grub out unwanted plants.
Original grade +_ 2" is to be maintained and constitutes final grade.
