Re: Edmonds HVAC Curb Review
Dear Scott,
Attached is the analysis for the mechanical unit curb installation proposed in Edmonds,
WA. A new roof mounted HVAC unit is proposed to be added (1,150# maximum
operating weight) and a review was requested for the curb installation only. A cut sheet
for the HVAC curb is shown on sheet 2, with an installation detail on sheet 3. The
analysis determined there is no net overturning and the curb should be fastened for the
governing wind shear.
The unit shall be fastened to the curbing and the curbing fastened to the roof framing per
the manufacturers recommendations for 110 mph (ultimate) Exp B wind loading and
Seismic Site Class D (Sds=0.850) per the 2018 International Building Code. As a
minimum, the unit shall be attached with # 10 screws @ 12" o/c each side or per the
attached detail on sheet 3 of the analysis.
Sincerely,
POE Engineering, Inc. ii,
Alan F. Poe, P.E. ' o
