Monument Sign
I reviewed the above building permit application on behalf of the Planning Division. During
review of the subject submittal, I found that the following information, corrections, or
clarifications need to be addressed. Please respond to the items below so that review may
continue. Without demonstrated compliance with the code citations below, staff cannot approve
this permit. Government signs in RS zones are treated akin to signs in the BN zones
(Interpretation 2018-1). Should you seek relief from these requirements, please apply for a
variance.
Sign Plan — UNADDRESSED: The submitted sign plan is not to scale, so the height of the
proposed freestanding sign cannot be determined accurately. Submit a scaled sign design. If
under six feet tall, the sign will be treated as a monument sign rather than a pole sign (ECDC
20.60.005). Planning cannot approve this sign without reviewing specific plans as described.
Sign Location — UNADDRESSED: Freestanding signs shall be located as near the center of the
street frontage as possible (ECDC 20.60.045(E)). Modify the proposed location of the
freestanding sign. Locating it west of the proposed path would meet this requirement.
