Finish: All steel components shall be thoroughly cleaned and phosphatized for rust resistance in a five - stage pre-treatment process. A high grade of polyester / epoxy powder paint is to be applied electrostatically with a gloss reading of between 55 and 65. The finish shall have a salt spray rating of 250 hours or more. Cleaning: The finish of Tennsco lockers is such that it can be cleaned with most household cleaners, including alcohol and ammonia. Industry standard testing determined that the finish of Tennsco lockers to chemical and acids was acceptable with no visual effect to 5 different solutions. These solutions were as follows: a 95% solution of Isopropyl Alcohol, a 10% solution of Acetic Acid machine oil, undiluted household ammonia, and a 10% solution of Lye. Cleaners should not be left on the units for more than 15 minutes before cleaning off. Abrasive cleaners should not be used. If they are used, over time the units will lose their gloss. The rivets can be removed using a drill. The drill bit should be no more than a 3/16' diameter. Position the drill bit in the center of the rivet. The soft aluminum rivet will be easy to drill through. Once the rivets are removed, a nut and bolt can be used to attach the lockers side by side. # 8 or # 10 nuts and bolts are recommended. Some installers prefer drilling a new hole to mount the lockers side by side. If this is done, make sure that the drilled hole goes through both the frame and side. It is not recommended to use a screw to attach lockers side by side. The tip of the screw may cause damage to items stored in the locker. For mounting lockers back to back, it is recommended to drill mounting holes in the top corners of the openings. There is a 1" flange on the side panels that overlaps the back panel. The holes should be drilled through the back flange of the side. This area is reinforced and will prevent deformation of the locker. For anchoring lockers to a wall, mount a 1" x 4" or 1" x 6" wooden plank horizontally to the wall with the top of the plank 1" down from where the top of the locker will be. If the locker is 72" high, the top of the board should be 71" from the floor and if the locker is 78" high, the top of the board should be 77" from the floor. If required by local Fire Codes use FRT (Flame Retardant Treated) wood. Make sure that the board is attached to the wall with all of the attachments going into the wall studs or block wall. For Steel studs use a self -drilling #14-13 x 3" DP1 Pancake head sheet metal screw with a minimum pullout of 300 pounds in 20 gauge material for mounting the board through the drywall and into the steel studs. For wooden studs use a minimum #10 x 3" Wood Screw. For block walls use a minimum 3/16" x 3" Phillips Flat Head Tapcon Self7apping Concrete Anchor. The wallboard should run the entire length behind the lockers with attachments in every stud or block. Drill a hole through the back of each locker 3" to 4" from the top of the locker. The hole should be slightly larger than the hardware selected for anchoring the locker to the wall. Make sure that the hole corresponds to the center of the wallboard. Use a #10 x 3/4" Full Thread Pan Head Wood Screw with a washer and run it through the holes in the back of the locker and into the wallboards. All lockers must be attached in this way. It may be necessary to shim under the front legs of these lockers. For anchoring lockers to the floor, it is recommended that the installer contact the factory. There are many bases offered by Tennsco and several anchoring methods. TK0048 tennsco Storage Made Easy ADA Locker Guidlines Included are the ADA Guidelines as they apply to Tennsco Lockers: All of the lockers can be opened with less than the minimum allowable force required by the ADA guidelines. The doors can be opened without tight grasping, pinching or twisting of the wrist with no more than five pounds of force to open or operate the locker. This specific guideline is applied to people with fine motor skill problems. The guideline is applied to people with fine motor skill problems. The guideline is applied to people with fine motor skill problems. The guideline that applies to wheelchair access indicates that anything below 9" and above 54" is not wheelchair accessible. ADA Compliant Lock: Tennsco's ADAKC Key Cap will make any master lock sold by Tennsco (that uses a key) ADA compliant. Design increases the size of the key head to make it easier to grip and turn. It can be used on all Tennsco Single, Double and Triple Tier lockers, both welded and KID. It will not function on any Tennsco Box Locker. The lock is designed to work on lockers with a lift latch mechanism. The lock utilizes a mechanical operation which does not require more than five pounds of force to operate. The user operates the lock by simply inserting the key. This allows the lift latch to be raised and the locker door to open. To lock the locker, the user removes the key and closes the door. The lock has a pivoting deadbolt instead of a horizontally actuaated dead bolt. A set of three keys is supplied with each ZEF-1730 lock. Additional keys can be purchased if needed. ZEF-LK is the model number for an extra key. Please note that this model number is for one key. The ZEF-CK is a Master Key that will open any ZEF-1730 lock within a key series. They are not necessary for the function of a lock. They are only needed if a Master Key is needed. Box Lockers: Please be aware that the MAS-1630 will not work on Tennsco Box Lockers. The dead bolt in the MAS-1630 pivots upward when the lock is operated. The lock requires the upward motion of a lock bar to function. Tennsco Box Lockers are designed to be locked with either a padlock or a horizontally actuated deadbolt lock. The finger pull on Tennsco Box Lockers can be operated using minimal force. It only requires two to three pounds to open a Box Locker Door. No pinching or twisting of the wrist is required to open the Box Locker Door. The Side Reach Guideline does apply to Tennsco Box Lockers only because any opening above 54" or below 9" is not wheelchair accessible. The bottom openings on both the 6-High and 5-High lockers are not compliant. The top two openings of the 6-High and top opening of the 5-High are above 54" so they aren't compliant. The second, third and fourth opeings are fully ADA compliant. Triple Tier Lockers: The lift latch mechanism is ADA compliant for Tennsco's Triple Tier Locker. It can be lifted with less than 5 pounds of force. The lift latch moves up to unlock the door and does not require tight grasping, twisting of the wrist or pinching. Once the lift latch is released, the lock bar drops and the door is closed in a lockable position. The bottom opening of a Tennsco Triple Tier Locker must be modi- fied to make it ADA compliant. The bottom of the locker is 7" high assuming that the lockers without legs will be used on a closed base or raised pedestal. This opening can be made compliant by adding an ADALSI Bottom Riser can be positioned on the bottom shelf. It does not require any tools or hardware and can be removed easily. The riser will add 3" to the height of the bottom shelf raising the top surface to 10". A welded ESL shelf can also be used to make the bottom opening ADA compliant. The shelf can be welded in position 3" above the bottom shelf. The shelf can also be added to a KID unit but holes will have to be drilled. The middle opening on a Triple Tier Locker does not require any modification to make it ADA compliant. The top level is not ADA compliant because most of the opening is above 54". Double Tier Lockers: The lift latch mechanism is ADA compliant for Tennsco's Double Tier Locker. It can be lifted with less than five pounds of force. The lift latch moves up to unlock the door and does not require tight grasping, twisting of the wrist or pinching. Once the lift latch is released, the bar drops and the door is closed in a lockable position. The bottom opening of a Tennsco Double Tier Locker must be modified to make it ADA compliant. The bottom of the locker is 7" high assuming that the lockers without legs will be used on a closed base or raised pedestal. The opening can be made compliant by adding an ADALSI-XXXX Bottom Riser or ESL-XXXXI Shelf. The ADALSI Bottom Riser can be positioned on the bottom shelf. It does not require any tools or hardware and can be removed easily. The riser will add 3" to the height of the bottom shelf, raising the top surface to 10". A welded ESL shelf can also be used to make the bottom opening ADA compliant. The shelf can be welded in position, 3" above the bottom shelf. The top level can be welded in positon, 3" above the bottom shelf. The top level can be made ADA compliant by adding an ADALS-XXXXI shelf 46" from the top of the bottom shelf in the first opening. This will position the coat hooks and top shelf below the 54" maximum height requirement. The shelf can also be added to a KID unit but drilling is required. Single Tier Lockers: The lift latch mechanism is ADA compliant for Tennsco's Single Tier Locker. It can be lifted with less than five pounds of fource. The lift latch moves up to unlock the door and does not require tight grasping, twisting of the wrist or pinching. Once the lift latch is released, the lock bar drops and the door is closed in a lockable position. The opening of a Tennsco Single Tier Locker must be modified to make it ADA compliant.
