DEI Edgewood Site Review Memo 2024-02-15 trimmers and king studsDEI DIBBLE ENGINEERS INC DATE: February 15, 2024 TO: Jared Brown EMAIL: jbrown@cdkconstruction.com CC: Keith Soltner (keith@soltnergroup.com) FROM: Melissa K. White, PE PROJECT: Edgewood HOA South Wall Repair DEI JOB #: 23-249 TOTAL # Pages: 1 QUESTION 001 FIELD QUESTION DEI's structural drawing set for the Edgewood Condominium South Wall Repair initially call for installing two new trimmer studs and one new king stud at each end of the window at the east end of the south wall, where the existing studs are damaged. During the structural repairs, the contractor revealed that the existing window header is supported with only one trimmer stud and one king stud at each end. The windows and window header are to undamaged and to remain, so an additional trimmer stud at each end would not fit. Can the contractor omit the second trim stud at each end of the window? RESPONSE 001 The scope of structural work is repair only, and no new loads are being added. We recommend that a second king stud be added adjacent to each window end and sistered to the first king stud with 10d common nails (0.148" x 3") at 4" on center, staggered.
