Question:
Please provide a response to the following question from the building
inspector:
I have been going over the plans and have a couple concerns that should
be addressed before it becomes an issue.
The residential units do not appear to have "whole house" ventilation, as
required by Washington State amended section 403.8 of the 2015 IMC. I
do see the VTAC units bring in OSA but does not appear to provide
exhaust as required.
The units have kitchens with cooking appliances. The plans indicate that
the hoods will be recirculating and comply with exception #3 of section
501.3. The exception requires compliance with the manufacture and
chapter 4 of the IMC. Now full circle to 403.8 which requires kitchen
exhaust to be exhausted to the exterior.
At this point, the plans do appear not to comply with the 2015 IMC and
should be revised to include the additional equipment. As always, I am
open to having your design team provide a response for us to review.
SUGGESTION:
ANSWER: See attached for sketches and updated mechanical sheets. GC to verify
unit mechanical ducting fits within soffits as shown on unit RCPs.
