In addition to generating your own clean, renewable energy with a solar electric system, there are numerous other ways to reduce your carbon footprint and save even more on your home energy bills. We've listed a handful of these methods below, some of which you may already be incorporating within your home. Similar to getting an initial solar energy assessment, it is recommended that you first obtain a Home Energy Audit in order to determine which of these measures would be most beneficial to you. Most utilities offer generous rebates and publish plenty of helpful information on-line, so check with them first to learn more about how you can save money and energy through various conservation efforts. WAYS TO SAVE The following list outlines some of the most common home energy upgrades. This is not an exhaustive list and not every home can benefit from each of these, but hopefully it serves as a good starting point for future upgrades. LIGHTING Installing LED or CFL bulbs is one of the cheapest and easiest ways to reduce your energy usage, INSULATION Attic, wall, and floor insulation will help your home maintain a comfortable temperature with minimal energy consumption. AIR SEALING Caulking and sealing gaps and leaks around windows, pipes, electrical outlets and anywhere else that lets in hot or cold air also reduces heating and cooling needs while maintain a comfortable temperature. DUCT SEALING Insulating and sealing gaps in the ducts that move hot or cold air from your heating or cooling system to other parts of your home will ensure the most efficient operation of those systems. A&R Solar's Approach HOME HEATING High -efficiency gas furnaces, electric heat pumps, and ductless heat pumps generate the most amount of heat using the least amount of energy. They are often quieter and faster - working than basic systems. WATER HEATING High -efficiency electric water heaters, gas tank water heaters, and tankless on -demand gas water heaters also work faster and use less energy than basic, inefficient models. WINDOWS High -efficiency and tight -fitting storm windows keep heat and sunlight inside your home when you want them, and minimize them when you don't. This of course leads to lower bills and increased comfort. In designing your solar PV system, A&RSolar has taken in to account some basic information about your current and future energy needs so as not to oversize your PV system. This might include energy efficiency measures already in place, opportunities for efficiency upgrades in the future, or the addition of an Electric Vehicle or family member(s) to your home. Of course, we can't predict the future, but we do hope you'll take advantage of ways to reduce your energy usage and/or dependence on fossil fuels should the opportunity arise. It has a solid ROI with almost zero risk and is a hedge against rising energy costs. Cashing Out The National Renewable Energy Lab (U.S Department of Energy) says that solar systems sold with homes are worth about $4/watt - we'd use $2/watt to be conservative and account for ages of all systems. When your home is sold or passed along to your heirs, the initial investment is often fully recouped. Solar is a tax free investment: no state sales tax, no specific capital gains upon the solar portion of the sale. This content is for informational purposes only.
