Ordinance 0004ORDINANCE NO. 4.
An ordinance in relation to dogs and bitches.
Be it ordained by the council of the town of Edmonds.
tGl�f SECTION 1: The keeping of dogs or bitches within the limits of
the town of Edmonds is hereby forbidden unless the owners or keepers
thereof shall procure a license for each dog or bitch as hereinafter
provided for, and every person violating any of the provisions of
thissectior shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and shall, on
conviction thereof, for each and every such offense,be fined in any
sum not exceeding twenty five dollars.
SECTION ?: The annual license tag on dogs and bitches is hereby
fixed at two dollars.
SECTION 3: On payment to the town treasurer of the amount of
any such license tax, and the production of the certificate thereof
/a 5to the town clerk, it shall be the duty of said clerk to issue a
license to the person applying for the same, which license shall re-
main in force from one year from its date and no longer; and the
clerk shall also furnish with such license a leather tag upon which
shall be stamped a nuxrber corresponding to the numberof such license,
and such tag shall be appended to a collar which the owner shall
provide and place upon the neck of the dog or bitch so licensed.
SECTION 4: All dogs or bitches found running at large with-,
out having on such marked collar are declared to be public nuis-&/m awkt --
ance, and it shall be the duty of the tvwn marshall or some suit-I'lt, cZ

able person to be by him appointed, to distrain and impound all
such dogs and bitches for which service he shall be entitled to a
fee of one dollar for such dog or bitch, to be collected from the
owner or keeper of such dog or bitch, together with the sum of
fiftycents for every day that such dog or bitch shall be kept in

custody; provided, however, that no dog or bitch shall be kept over
forty-eight hours, at the expiration of which time it shall be the
duty of s&id town marshall or other person by him appointed, to
offer smeh dog or bitch for sale for the payment of the tax, costs
and expenses due. And in case of failure to obtain a purchaser
for the full amount of said tax, costs and expenses, it shall be
the duty of the said marshal or other person by him appointed, to
cause the destruction of such dog or bitch.
SECTION 5: The town marshal is hereby authorized to secure a
suitable pound for the purpose of carrying out the provisions of T,w�lb
this ordinance.
SECTION 6: 'If any person, the owner of any dog or bitch, shall
prevent such dog or bitch to wear the collar contemplated by this
ordinance without said tax having been paid, and license procured,
he shall for each and every such offense be fined in the sum of ten
dollars; to which may be added the costs of prosecution.
SECTION 7: This ordinance shall take effect and be in force
from and after its passage, approval and publication. lice r�ccf�
