An Ordinance accepting the Gift from Andrew Carnegie, of Lew
ork City, State of Yew York, of the sum of Five Thousand Dollars
toward the construction of a Public Library, in the City of Edmonds,
tate of Washington, in trust for the public; accepting the Library
�, Building as constructed on Lot One, Block "D" City Plat of Edmonds;
making it the duty of the Mayor to turn over said building to the
Board of Library Trustees, and making it the duty of said Trustees
to use said building for the purposes for which the same was donated
and constructed.
Whereas, it appearing to the satisfaction of the Council of
the City of Edmonds, State of Washington, that Andrew Carnegie,
Philanthropist, has 4onated the sum of Five Thousand Dollars toward
the construction of a Public Library Building, in the City of Ed-
monds, for the use and benefit of the public; and it further appear-
ing, to the satisfaction of this Council, that a good and sufficient
Library Building was, during the year 1910, with the consent of the
said City of Edmonds, constructed upon the real property of said
City described as Lot One, Block "D" City Plat of Edmonds, and that
the said Gift from said Andrew Carnegie has been duly applied upon
and in payment of work .and labor, and materials furnished in the
construction of said Library Building.
Therefore, the City council of the City of Edmonds do ordain as
follows:
SECTIO11 1: The City of Edmonds, acting through its Mayor and
City Council, hereby expresses its gratitude to Andrew Carnegie,
philanthropist, for the Gift of $5,000 expended in the construction
of a Public Library in said City.
SECTION 2: That said Library Building be, and the same is here-
by, accepted by this Council in trust for the #ablic.
SECTIO1 3: It shall be the duty of the Mayor, after the takirg
effect of this Ordinance, to place said Library Building, or such
portion thereof as the Library Trustees may deem necessary for
Library purposes, under the authority and control of the Board of
Library Trustees for immediate use and occupation as provided by
law, and the Gift mentioned in Section One of this Ordinance.
SECTIOL 4: It shall be the duty of the said Library Trustees
to use and occupy said Library baalding, or such portion thereof
as they deem necessary., for library purposes in conformity with
the laws of the State of Washington, and the Ordinances of said
City.
SECTION 5: Any portion of said building not used for library
purposes, shall be used for the public, under the direction of the
Mayor and City Council.
