ELECTRIC FRAYCHiSE, CITY OF EDMOLDS, WASHINGTON.
Being an Ordirarce grarting unto the Washington Coast Utilities
of Edmonds, Washington_, and to their legal successors it interest,
the right and authority to erect and maintain poles and crossarms
thereon within the City of Edmonds, to stretch wires on said poles
l and crossarms for the transmission of electrical currents; to furn-
ish electrical currents to the said City of Edmonds and the inhabi-
tarts thereof for the production of lights, heat and power and for
any and all other purposes and uses to which electrical currents
Pan or may be put; and to charge reasonable rates to the consum-
ers of said electrical current.
Be it ordained by the Council of the G'ity of Edmonds:
SECTION 1: That there be, and hereby is, granted to the Wash-
irgton Coast Utilities of Edmonds, Washington, and to its legal
successors in interest, the right, privilege, and authority for
and during a period of fifty (50) years from the date of the pass-
ge of this Ordinance, and subject to all the conditions and pro-
visions thereof, to locate, erect, place, and maintain ard use in
Avenues, Streets, laces, alleys, highways and public parks and
grounds within the said City of Edmonds, and the extensions of
all Avenues, Streetsi laces, alleys, highways, and public parks
and grounds which may hereafter be made and extended, ar_d all
Avenues, Streets, lanes, alleys, higrly, ays and public- parks and
grounds which may hereafter be laid out or dedicated to the public
it said City of Edmonds, poles with crossarms and thereon to fasten
wires and appliances and to stretch said wires along, scross and
through said Avenues; Streets, lar_es, alleys, highways and public
parks and grounds for the use of thereby transmitting, distribut-
irg and furnishirg to consumers thereof electrical currents for
the production of li�ht, heat and power and for any and all purpo-
ses and uses to which electrical current can or may be put throughO
out the said Gity of Edmonds, and of charg-rg reasonable rates to
the consumers of said electrical current. 2_11 poles to be placed

per authorities of said City of Edmonds.7
SECTIOE 2: Than the grant hereby made is intended to, and
lifw does,include ary, all and every part of the Streets, Avenues,lanes,
alleys, highways and public parks and grounds of said City of Ed-
r ords as now laid out, platted and dedicated, and all Avenues,
W Streets, lanes, alleys,highways, and public parks and grounds that
may hereafter be laid out and dedicated within the now limits of
said City of Edmonds and the limits thereof as the same may here-

after be extended to, and all Avenues, Streets, lanes, alleys,
highways, and public parks and grounds as now platted and the ex-
tensions and continuations of the same and on lines thereof, whether
the same shall be projected and extended in their now names or not.
SECTION 3: That whenever it shall be necessary, in the erec-
tion of said poles, to take up any portion of the sidewalks or
dig up the ground at or near the sides or corners of any of the ���rli
said Avenues, Streets, alleys, lanes, or highways or within said �t
public parks or grounds, then the said Washington Coast Utilities ,,
or its successors in interest shall, after such poles are erected,
without delay, replace such sidewalks and properly refit the
stringers and planks thereof or replace any other kind of sidewalk
in a neat and workmanlike manner and remove from such Streets,
Avenues, alleys, lanes, highways, or public parks and grounds all
rubbish, sand, dirt or other materials that may have been placed
there, taken up or dug up in the erection of said poles and shall
restore such sidewalks, streets, Avenues, lanes,alleys, highways,
or public grounds to as good condition as they were in before being
taken up, dug up or disturbed.

4: That all rights, privileges, authority, and Fran -
chisel herein and hereby conferred upon and granted to said Wash-
ington Coast Utilities and to its legal successors in interest,
shall continue and be in force for fifty (50) years from and afterj-P
the date of the passage of this Ordinarce, subject to the condi-
tions and provisions herein contained.
SECTION 5: That the said Washington Coast Utilities ara its
legal successors in interest covenant to irdemr_ify the said City of
Edmonds for any injury arising from ar_y casualty or accider_t to
persons or property by reason of any neglect or omission to keep
such poles and wires in a safe condition ar..d to deferd all claims
against said City for damages caused by such poles or wires or by
any electrical currents conducted thereby.
SECTION 6: That nothing contained herein shall be construed We WVZZJ
as granting to the Washington Coast Utilities and its legal succes-pK u�
sore in interest the right or authority to stretch wires over or
attach wires to the roof of any building for the purpose of conduct
ing electrical currents, not erect poles upon or stretch wires a-
cross private property without first obtaining permission from the
owner or agent of said building or property so to do.

SECTION 7: That unless the said Washington Coast Utilities (U!
or its successors in interest shall, within sixty (60) days from A
and after the passage and approval of this Ordinance, file with
the Clerk of the City of Edmonds, its acceptance of the Franchise
herein granted, subject to all the conditions and provisions herein
and a surrender of all rights acquired by said grantee under and
by virtue of that certain Franchise heretofore granted to the
Edmonds Electric Light and Power Company, under Ordinance L o.
this Ordinance shall be void.
SECTION 8: That this Ordinarce shall take effect and be in
force from and after five (5) days after its passage, approval ar-
publication according to'law. Gv
Passed the City Council of the City of Edmonds, Snohomish
County, Washington, in regular session this 19th day of December
1917% and approved by me the same date.
