AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING ADDITIONAL FUNDS TO PAY ThE SALARIES FOR THE
WATER DEPARTMENT OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS AND TO PAY FOR ADDITIONAL
SUPPLIES AND TRUCK EXPENSE FOR THE WATER DEPARTMENT FOR THE CITY
OF EDMONDS FOR THE YEAR 1957; TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL FUNDS FOR STREET
LIGHTING IN THE CURRENT EXPENSE FUND FOR THE YEAR 1957; TO PROVIDE
ADDITIONAL FUNDS IN THE CURRENT EXPENSE FUND FOR PRINTING IN THE
• YEAR 1957; AND TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL FUNDS FOR EQUIPMENT AND SER-
VICES IN THE POLICE DEPARTMENT OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS FOR THE YEAR
1957; PROVIDING FOR THE ISSUANCE OF AN 1•:Y—RGENCY WARRANT OR WARRANTS
FOR PAYMENT THEREOF, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, the Water Department of the City of Edmonds, because of annex-
ations and rapidly expanding facilities, has had to employ additional help, and
WHEREAS, :additional supplies and equipment, including truck expense, was
necessary in order to handle the rapidly growing area, and
WHEREAS, additional street lights were installed that were not contemplated
at the beginning of the year, because the annexations were not foreseen, and
WHEREAS, the cost of the notices and legal printing involved in connection
with the said annexations and the expansion of the said City increased the amount
of printing necessary, and
WHEREAS, the Police Department had to procure additional equipment and
furnish additional services because of the expansion situation, and
WHEREAS, such an expansion and the requirement for the additional salaries,
supplieb and truck expense for the Water Department, street lighting, printing, and
additional Police Department equipment and services could not reasonably have been
foreseen at the time the budget for 1957 was set up, and
WHEREAS, tnere are not sufficient funds in the ''Vater Department to pay the
additional salaries, supplies and truck expense for the remainder of the year 1957,
and
WHEREAS, there are not sufficient funds in the Current Expense fund to pay
for the additional cost of the street lighting installed, and to pay for the additional
printing, and
WHEREAS, there are not suificient funds in the Police Department to pay for
the additional equipment and services necessitated, for the remainder of the year

NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS
DOES ORDAIN:
• Section 1. That the City of Edmonds shall pay to the employees of the Water
Department the sum of $1600.00 over and above the amounts budgeted for such sal-
aries in the regular 1957 budget.
Section 2. The City of Edmonds shall pay for additional supplies and truck
expense in the Water Department the sum of $3, 000. 00 over and above the amounts
budgeted for such supplies and truck expense in the regular 1957 budget.
Section 3. That the City of Edmonds shall pay for additional street lighting
costs, in the Current Expense Fund, the sum of $840.00 over and above the amounts
budgeted for such street lighting in the regular 1957 budget.
Section 4. That the City of Edincnds shall pay for additional printing charged
against the Current Expense Fund the sum of $350.00 over and above the amounts
budgeted for such printing in the regslar 1957 budget.
Section 5. That the City of Edmonds shall pay out4W the Police Department
for equipment and additional services the sum of $450.00 over and above the amounts
budgeted for such equipment and services in the regular 1957 budget.
Section 6. The City Treasurer of the City of Edmonds is hereby directeod
to issue Emergency Warrants totalling $6, 240. 00 to pay for the above items, from
any funds available.
• Section 7. An emergency is hereby declared to exist with regard to pay-
ment of the aforesaid amounts, for the remainder of the year 1957, as the expan-
sion of the facilities and the requirements for additional expenditures could not
reasonably have been forseen and no funds were budgeted to pay therefor.
Section 8. That funds to repay the amounts aforesaid shall be budgeted
in the year 1959.

Section 9. That this ordinance shall take effect immediately upon its
passage and publication as required by law.
