AMENDING THE OFFICIAL ZONING ORDINANCE, SECTION
DZI.13.280 03 NGING THE HEIGHT AND SIZE CRIT:,]HIA
FOR SIGNS IN THE GENERAL COMMERCIAL (CG) ZONE,
PURSUAt_ TO PLANNING COMMISSION RESOLUTION NO.
282.
WHEREAS, the. City Council of the City of Edmonds,
Washington pursuant to Planning Commission Resolution
No. 282 called a public hearing and thereat found it to
be in thebest interests and thepublic health, safety and
welfare to amend the Edmonds Zoning. Ordinance as set forth
below, now therefore,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF IF 0r2Y OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON
DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The Edmonds City Code, Section 12.13.280,
is hereby amended to read as follows:
"Section 12.13.280 Limitations on Uses(co).
Triese PerEl=d USes locating in a CG zone shall be
subject to the followingfurther conditions and
limitations:
A. Alluses shall conform to the general provisions and
exceptions concerning off-street parking and loading.
area standards of number, area, surface, screening,
and maintenance as required by Chapter 12,14 of this
Code;
B. All uses shall be conducted wholly and
within enclosed building except
1. Automotive and automotive trailer
areas;
2. Automotive wrecking yards;
3. Gas stations;
4. Building materials yards;
5- Kennels;
6. Outdoor advertising structures;
7. Parking and loading areas;
8. APublic utility installations,
entirely
sales display.
C. Pump islands of gas stations shall not be closer than
15 feet to. any street property. line or pubile way, nor
shall any gasoline service station sign extend over
the property boundary line, street property line or
public way;
D. All sites having a common boundary line with an 'R'
classified property shall have planted and maintained
a vieW-obscuring coniferous greenbelt of shrubs, trees
and native vegetation not less than. six feet tn height
nor less than ten. feet in width, for screening purposes
and controlling access. Greenbelt requirements as
herein provided, shall be complied with within a
period of six months from effective date of this
Ordinance;
E. Signs, advertising structures, and area illumination
are permitted, subject tothe following limitations:
1. Signs and advertising structures shallnot exceed
the building height permitted inthe zone classi-
fication.
2. The total sign copy area or sign backgroundarea
shall not exceed. 20% of the buildingfacade area
or one-half (1/2) square foot for each, lineal
font of lot franta&e,, whichever' results in. the
larger sign area, Where frontageis on more than
one street, only the signs computed with the
frontage on that street shall face that street.

standing signs shall be computed as part of tho.

Signs and advertising structures shall not extend
over property Sbundary lines, street propertyline.
or public way.
If illuminated, in any manner shall not create
hazard or nuisance to passing traffic nor shall
the glare from any illuminating device be visible
from anyR' zoned property where such sign,
advertising structure or illuminated area borders
such a zone,
where dimensional and other regulations are in
conflict with Ordinance973 Uniform Sign. Code,
as amended, themore stringent regulation shall
apply.
6. Prohibited types of signs Off -premise painted
wall signs where the sponsor of the sign does
not maintain offices at the site; roof mounted
billboards.
F. Accessory buildings and uses customarily incident to
any of the permitted. uses shall be located on the same,
site with the principal building;
G. Any process incident to a permitted use shall not
constitute a nuisance by way of offensive disseminations
and shall comply with the provisions of Section
12.14.050 of this Ordinance."
