ORDINANCE NO.
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON,
AMENDING EDMONDS CITY CODE CHAPTER 8.28, SPECIAL
STOPS, ADDING A NEW CHAPTER 8.24, ONE-WAY STREET
TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES; AND ESTABLISHING AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Edmonds is a non -charter code city
organized and existing under the provisions of Title 35A of the
Revised Code of Washington, and
WHEREAS, the City is required, pursuant to RCW
46.61.195, to erect and maintain stop signs or yield signs
whenever the City, pursuant to RCW 46.61.195, designates one or
more of its streets as an arterial highway, and
WHEREAS, the City has, pursuant to RCW 46.61.195 and
Edmonds City Code (ECC) 8.64.020, designated certain streets as
arterial highways, and
WHEREAS, the City is required, pursuant to RCW
46.61.135, to erect traffic control devices upon all designated
one-way streets, and
WHEREAS, the City has, pursuant to RCW 46.61.135 and
ECC 8.64.010, designated certain streets as one-way streets, NOW,
THEREFORE,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON, DO
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. A new section is hereby added to ECC
Chapter 8.28, Special Stops, to read as follows:

8.28.020 ERECTION OF STOP SIGNS OR YIEL❑
SIGNS• STOPPING AND ENTERING.
A. The City shall erect, or cause to be
erected and maintained, standard stop
signs or yield signs with respect to those
streets designated as arterial highways
under ECC section 8.64.020.
B. The operator of any vehicle entering upon
any City -designated arterial highway or
State arterial highway from any other
public highway or private way shall come
to a complete stop before entering the
arterial highway when stop signs are
erected as provided under subsection (A)
of this section.
Section 2. A new chapter, Chapter 8.24, One -Way Street
Traffic Control Devices, is hereby enacted to read as follows:

8.24.010 ONE-WAY STREETS DESIGNATED
Those streets and parts of streets described
in section 8.64.010 are hereby declared to be
one-way streets for the purpose of this
section.
8.24.010 TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES.
A. The City shall erect, or cause to be
erected and maintained, official traffic
control devices on all City -designated
one-way streets.
B. The operator of any vehicle located upon
such one-way streets shall proceed in one
direction at all or such times as shall be
indicated by official traffic control
devices.
Section 3. Effective Date. This ordinance, being an

administrative action, is not subject to referendum and shall take
effect five (5) days after this ordinance or a summary thereof
consisting of the title is published.
