ORDINANCE NO. 2849
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON,
REPEALING SECTIONS 8.56.010 AND 8.56.020 AND
ENACTING IN THEIR PLACE A NEW SECTION 8.56.010
OF THE EDMONDS CITY CODE ESTABLISHING A BAN ON
TRUCK TRAFFIC ON ALL CITY STREETS, ESTABLISHING
DESIGNATED TRUCK ROUTES, AND FIXING A DATE FOR
THE SAME TO BECOME EFFECTIVE.
WHEREAS, pursuant to the authority granted by RCW
46.44.080, the Edmonds City Council finds that it is necessary to
establish certain designated truck routes in the city limits of
Edmonds, and
WHEREAS, this ordinance is in the interest of the
public health, safety and welfare, NOW, THEREFORE,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON, DO
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The Edmonds City Code is hereby amended
by the repeal of sections 8.56.010 and 8.56.020 and the enactment
in their place of a new section 8.56.010 to read as follows:
8.56.010 REGULATED TRUCK BAN
A. A regulated truck is any vehicle over
10,000 gross vehicle weight the principal
use of which is the transportation of
commodities, merchandise, produce,
freight, animals, or passengers for hire
excluding school buses, emergency
vehicles, duly franchised solid waste
disposal and recycling vehicles and
public transit vehicles. All regulated
trucks are prohibited from all city
streets and alleys except upon the
designated truck routes set forth below

and except that such vehicles may be
operated on other streets and alleys only
for the purpose of pick up and delivery
of materials and then only by entering
such street at the intersection nearest
the destination of the vehicle and
proceeding thereon no further than the
next intersection thereafter.
B. The following streets or routes are
hereby designated as the exclusive truck
routes in the City of Edmonds:
1. SR-104;
2. Highway 99; and
3. 76th Street south of 196th Street to
Highway 99.
Section _2. The Community Services Director or his
designee shall erect signs designating the provisions of this
ordinance at each end of the portion of any public highway whose
use is restricted by this ordinance.
Section 3. This ordinance, being an exercise of a
power specifically delegated to the City legislative body, is not
subject to referendum, and shall take effect five (5) days after
passage and publication of the ordinance or a summary thereof
consisting of the title.
