1950-04-06 Council MinutesApril 4, 1950
The Council for the regular session with Mayor McGibbon presiding. The roll call showed
the following councilmen present Vollan, Tucker, Waggoner, McGinness, Engels, Maxwell
and Savage.
A motion was made by councilman McGinness and seconded by councilman Maxwell that the
bills which were approved by the auditing committee be allowed and warrants be drawn on
the proper funds. Motion carried.
A motion was made by councilman Tucker and seconded b �d councilman 17(aggoner that the Mayor
be authorized to place banners across the street andrany co-operation necessary for
the Music festival to be held April 22, given by -the Edmonds High School and students
from King, Snohomish and Kitsap and Island Counties. Motion carried.
A motion was made by councilman Tucker and seconded by councilman Maxwell that the contract
with Mr. Jannsen for the new well be extended to April 19. Motion carried.
A letter was read from Mr. Williams'in which he stated he wanted 1250 for his 60foot
piece.of property on Howell way. Mayor McGibbon stated he had three appraisals made of
the property, which were $350, 400 and 450, the Pakkala property %25, 650'and 750
less the sewer assessment., the Hedges property $450; 450 and $400. A motion was made
by councilman -Tucker and seconded -by councilman Waggoner that Mr. Williams -select one
appraisor, the Council to select one, then the two to pick the third°appraisor to consider
the price of the property.. Motion carried. - • i_�
A motion was made by councilman Maxwell and seconded by councilman Waggoner that we grant
the same.proceedure of the other property is they desire the same.proposition. Motion
carried.
A motion was made by councilman Waggoner and seconded by councilman Tucker -that the Mayor
be authorized to,appoint an appraisor for the City. Motion carried.
A motion was made b y councilman McGinness and seconded by councilman Tucker that Front
and or First Avenue be.re-named "Sunset Avenue", and the attorney draw up a resolution
on the Same. Motion carried. _
A motion was made by councilman McGinness and seconded by councilman Savage that Edmonds
go on daylight saving time the same as Seattle, April 30 to September 24- Motion carried.
Max Meyring reported that the County records do not show that the alleys between 9th & 10th
and Daley and Edmonds streets have been vacated.
A motion was made by councilman Maxwell and seconded by councilman Tucker that the claim
from Mrs. Tellevik be denied and the Attorney answer the claim and deny the paym6nt.
Motion carried.
The Street committee granted permission to the Light Co., to go ahead with the extension
of power service on Sprague Street. A motion was made by councilman Maxwell and seconded
by councilman Waggoner that a light be placed at ninth & Sprague also one on Main street
between 7 & 8th. Motion carried.
A motion was made by councilman McGinness and seconded by councilman Maxwell that the/
Treasurer cash in the 4$60,000 water bonds as of April 1. Motion carried.

The council met for a special session with Mayor McGibbon, Councilmen Tucker, 111aggoner,
McGinness, Engels and Maxwell present.
Mayor McGibbon read the petition for the annexation of the Yost First Addition to Edmonds.
Attorney Holte reported that more than 75% of the property had signed for the annexation,
which include Block one to twelve inclusive. A motion was made by councilman Tucker and
seconded by councilman McGinness tha t the hearing be set for April 17, subject to the
checking by our Attorney for legality. Notices to be published and posted actor ding to
law. Motion carried.
