Motion carried. `Where bein no further bus' tress the meeting City c er adjourned. iMayor Aptil 17, 1956 The Council met for its regular session with Mayor Maxwell presiding. The roll call showed the following councilmen present Tuson, Talen, Kincaid, Cloud, Bishop, Sommerseth and Steed. The Treasurers report was read to the Council. A letter was read from Mrs. Ross Wickersham, protesting the opening up of Ninth Avenue North. Mayor Maxwell said he would answer the letter. Mr. Platt came before the council asking to have the alley between maple and Alder street west of Ninth opened up. This was referred to the street committee for investigatica Several residents who reside on S venth avenue North came before the council in regards to an improvement of the street.After some discussion a motion was made by Councilman Kincaid and seconded by councilman Sommerseth that May 1, be set for a hearing on the improveent, and the Engineer bring in an estimate of the cost for curb and blacktop of the street from Bell to Casper street, Daley and Sprague street from ninth to Olympic avenue, and Casper street. Also the Attorney to prepare the Resolution of Intention. Motion carried. Mr. Thomas asked if seventh avenue could be oiled,by the city this year. A motion was made -by councilman Kincaid and seconded by councilman Talen th*t the request for oiling -seventh avenue at the city expense be denied. Motion carried Bud Little came before the council, stating that he had moved $ one of his small buildings and connected it to his other building, which is sided with Johns Mansville shakes, he asked for a code variance wheeeby he would not have to cover the attached building with the same type of shakes. A motion was made by councilman Tuson and seconded by councilman Talen that Bud Little be granted the variance. motion carried. A motion was made by Councilman Bishop and seconded by Councilman Sommerseth that Attorney Holte do the necessary, work to negotiate for a right-of-way on tenth avenue from Daley street to the north city limits. Motion carried. Mayor Maxwell reported that he asked for the installation of a street light north of the fire station. A petition for the improving of the alley between Main'and Bell street and between Sunset Avenue and second avenue, was read to the council. A motion was made by Councilman Tuson and seconded by councilman Steed that Attorney .Holte check the names on the petition and a resolution of intantion be drawn up for the next Council meeting. A claim for damages done to the Union Oil Truck at the corner of Third and 1ialnut street in the amount of p4000, also stating this was caused from negligence on the part of the city in maintaing the water line, which caused the street to wash -out, was, referred to Attorney Holte. Four bids were received for lots B and C, gate velves and hydrants, Grinnell Co., lot B, $1560.00, lot C for $2526.75, Hallgren Co., lot B, $1507.80, lot C, $2172.20, Western Utilities Supply Co., lot B, $1480.46, and lot C, 02406,701, Pacific Water Works, lot B, $1492.09, and lot C. $2172.60, and H. D. Fowler.Co.,.lot B $1597.07. This was the night set for a hearing on a street improvement for Seventh avenue from Bell to Casper street, Casper street from Third Avenue to Sunset Aiaenue, Daley street from Olynpic avenue west to a poiht 400 feet west of Ninth avenue, and Sprague stre..et from Olympic avenue west to Ninth avenue, and tenth avenue from Sprague street north to a point 110 feet north of Daley street. The property owners present at this hearing were in favor of the improvement and a motion was made by councilman Talen and seconded by Councilman Sommerseth that Resolution of Intention No. 124, setting up this improvement be passed. Motion carried. Several other property owners asked to have Pine street from 5th to 8th, seventh street from Cedar to Fir, Fir streetfrom 6th to ninth, and Edmonds and Bell streets west of Olympic avenue -improved. May 15 was set for a hearing night on these street improvements. A motion was made by Councilman Kincaid and seconded by Councilman Tuson that the bills as approved -by the auditing committee be allowed and warrants be drawn on the proper funds. Motion carried. The meeting adjourned until Wednesday night, at which time the bids will be considered, May 2, 1956. The council met for its recessed•meeting, with Mayor Maxwell presiding. After considering the bids which.were opened Tuesday night, a motion was made by Councilman Tuson and seconded by Councilman Steed that we accept the bid from United States Pipe & Foundry Co., for 27oo feet of six inch Cast Iron Pipe, in the amount of $5116.50y with delivery in 14 days. Motion carried. A motion was made by Councilman Tuson and seconded by Councilman Cloud that we accept the, bid of Western Utility Supply Co., for lot B,_ gate valves and fittings,. in the amount of 1480.46, with immediate delivery, Motion carried. The comments from the report of the examination made by the State Examiner covering the period of April 1, 1954 to December 31, 1955, was read to the council. A letter was read from Carl S. Harris protesting the improvement of Sprague street between seventh and Eighth Avenue. Atto mey Holte and Mayor Maxwell were appointed as the two delegates to the convention of the Association of Washington Cities at Yakima, by a motion which was made by Councilman Tuson and seconded by Councilman Sommerseth. Motion carried. Councilman Tuson reported that the calim which was received from Mason Hall was not caused from. -the storm sewer but from a plugged sanitary sewer.'
