Pipe co $5,143.50, United States Pipe & Foundry, for $5116.50, and Grinnell Co., for
$5265.00.
Four bids were received for lots B and C, gate velves and hydrants, Grinnell Co., lot B,
$1560.00, lot C for $2526.75, Hallgren Co., lot B, $1507.80, lot C, $2172.20, Western
Utilities Supply Co., lot B, $1480.46, and lot C, 02406,701, Pacific Water Works, lot
B, $1492.09, and lot C. $2172.60, and H. D. Fowler.Co.,.lot B $1597.07.
This was the night set for a hearing on a street improvement for Seventh avenue from
Bell to Casper street, Casper street from Third Avenue to Sunset Aiaenue, Daley street
from Olynpic avenue west to a poiht 400 feet west of Ninth avenue, and Sprague stre..et
from Olympic avenue west to Ninth avenue, and tenth avenue from Sprague street north to a
point 110 feet north of Daley street. The property owners present at this hearing were
in favor of the improvement and a motion was made by councilman Talen and seconded by
Councilman Sommerseth that Resolution of Intention No. 124, setting up this improvement
be passed. Motion carried.
Several other property owners asked to have Pine street from 5th to 8th, seventh street
from Cedar to Fir, Fir streetfrom 6th to ninth, and Edmonds and Bell streets west of
Olympic avenue -improved. May 15 was set for a hearing night on these street improvements.
A motion was made by Councilman Kincaid and seconded by Councilman Tuson that the bills
as approved -by the auditing committee be allowed and warrants be drawn on the proper
funds. Motion carried.
The meeting adjourned until Wednesday night, at which time the bids will be considered,
May 2, 1956.
The council met for its recessed•meeting, with Mayor Maxwell presiding.
After considering the bids which.were opened Tuesday night, a motion was made by Councilman
Tuson and seconded by Councilman Steed that we accept the bid from United States Pipe &
Foundry Co., for 27oo feet of six inch Cast Iron Pipe, in the amount of $5116.50y with
delivery in 14 days. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Councilman Tuson and seconded by Councilman Cloud that we accept the,
bid of Western Utility Supply Co., for lot B,_ gate valves and fittings,. in the amount of
1480.46, with immediate delivery, Motion carried.
A motion was made by Councilman Tuson and seconded by Councilman Cloud that we accept the
bid of Hallgren Co., for the fire hydrants, in the amount of $2172.20, .less 2%-10days, with

A motion was made by Councilmman Tuson and seconded by Councilman Steed to reject all
street bids unit C. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Councilman Tuson and seconded by Councilman Talen that we accept
the bid from' Thorborn & Logozo for the installation of water & sewer lines, item A and B,
in the amount . of $162987.50. .Motion carried.
A motion was made by Councilman Tuson and seconded by Councilman Steed that the request
of Roy Meister to build a second.story on his garage, subject to the rgquirements as per
the•building inspector. Motion carried.
The wateroollectors report was read to the Council.
The comments from the report of the examination made by the State Examiner covering
the period of April 1, 1954 to December 31, 1955, was read to the council.
A letter was read from Carl S. Harris protesting the improvement of Sprague street
between seventh and Eighth Avenue.
Atto mey Holte and Mayor Maxwell were appointed as the two delegates to the convention
of the Association of Washington Cities at Yakima, by a motion which was made by
Councilman Tuson and seconded by Councilman Sommerseth. Motion carried.
Councilman Tuson reported that the calim which was received from Mason Hall was not
caused from. -the storm sewer but from a plugged sanitary sewer.'

The Council met for its regular session with Councilman Tuson serving as Mayor
pro-tem in the absence of Mayor Maxwell, The roll call showed the following
Counci.lmen•present Tuson, Talen., Kincaid, Cloud, Bishop, Sommerseth and Steed.
This was .the night setfor the hearing on street imppovements on Edmonds and Bell
streets west of Olympic avenue also seventh avenue from cedar to Fir street, Fir
from Fifth to Ninth, and Pine street from Fifth to Eighth avenue.* A petition pro-
testing the improvement on Edmonds and Bell street was presented to the Council,
also a number of the property owners were present. A petition protesting the
improvement of seventh avenue south was presented to the Council and the
people present stated they were not in favor of the improvement to this time.
A letter was -read from the Edmonds Rotary Club, asking for permission to, hold
a carnival at the High School Playfield from June 11,-to June lb. A motion was

a advised that it is the Council desire that they maintain
order on the grounds during the.carnival. Motion carried.
A letter was read from the Boy Scout Troop No. 310 asking for permission to install
several trash barrels and sign posts in the parkway along Sunset Avenue, with a
reading on the post "Dont be a Litter Bug". A motion was made by Councilman Bishop
and seconded by councilman Steed that the location of the barrels be referred to the
Safety committee. Motion carried.
A letterwasread from Mr. It. K. Schoppert asking the City to give him a deed to one-half
of the alley in block 64, which was vacatedsometime ago, also a deed to one-half of
tenth avenue. A motiin was made by Councilman Kincaid and seconded by councilman
Cloud that this be turned over to attorney Holte. Motion carried.
A motion was made by councilman Talen and seconded b ng���m an Kincaid that Acting
Mayor,Tuson sign the contract with Montlake Terrace ornPoliBe calls, the city to
pay $$40 per month, until January 1, 1957. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Councilman Bishop and seconded by Councilman Talen that Resolution
of Intention # 125 for the improvement of the alley between Sunset Avenue and Second
avenue from Main to Bell street be passed, and the datefor hearing be seh for June 19.
Motion carried. -
A motion was made by Councilman Kincaid and seconded by Councilman Talen that the
Lions Club be given permission to erect a banner, advertising the salmon Derby, across
I--ai.n street from Traftons Furniture to Helen Reynolds Studio, subject to the approval
of the State Highway department. Motion carried.
A- motion wasmade by Councilman Steed and seconded by Councilman Talen that the Water
Department purchase a mower at a cost of $$2g4.10. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Councilman Kincaid and seconded by Councilman'Sommerseth that
Don Phillips be permitted to drain and blacktop his alley in Block J, the City will
pay for engineering not to exceed 675. Motion carried.

The water collectors report was read to the Council.
A motion was made by Councilman Kincaid and seconded by Councilman Talen that the
bill as approved by the auditing.committee be allowed and warrants be drawn on the
proper funds. Motion carried.'
A letter -•and bills for the repairs of the Union Oil Truck in the amount of $1388.06,
wqs turned over to Attorney Holte.
A letter and check for $$200 from Jerome E. Gates, the charge for a sewer connection
on Tenth avenue, was read to the Council. He asks for permission to make this
connection in May 1957. A motion was made by Councilman Kincaid and seconded by
Councilman Tuson that this connection he held over until May 1957. Motion carried.
A letter and an assignment•of contract of Thorborn & Logozo made to the National Bank
of Commerce in Seattle wasread to the Council. Attorney Holte ruled this is not
valid under the contract, he is to answer the letter, and return the assignment.
Two protests were read to the Council for the proposed paving of Seventh avenue,
from Pine street to Fir Street, and one for Fir Street, which were ordered to put
on file. Also a letterfor G. T. Coggswell asking for a stop dign to be installed
on seventh avenue where it dead ends at Fir Street. which was meffered to the
Safety committee.
Mr. Menefee came before the council asking for a larger water line on Third avenue
south and a fire hydrant, for firs; protection.
A petition was read to the Council stating that the property owners want the paving
of ,the alley from Main to Bell street changed from concrete to blacktop.
A motion was made by Councilman Kincaid and seconded by Councilman Talen that the
date for hearing on Resolution of Intention No. 124 be changed f rom.June 19 to July 5.
Motion carried.
