A letter was`read from Mr. Nace in regards to Eighth Avenue North,'which -was turned
over to the chairman of the -planning commission, Sproule McGinness.
A motion was made by Councilman Cloud and seconded by Councilman Talen that the
ammendment to the City Code, chapter 8 article 2 section 8-2.02 signs and billboards
be passed. Motion carried.
Mr. Shaw came before the council in regards to a drainage problen on C and Fir
street, stating the water drains onto his property. This was referred to the
street committee for a report at our next meeting.

Engineer Reid be authorited to get in"touch with the contractor to speed up the
work on'L. I. D. #77. Motion carried.
A motion was made by counctilman Tuson and seconded by Councilman Bishop that a
variance of*one foot be give'the Christian Science Church for their building on
Bell street. Motion carried.

The Council met for its regular session Wednesday night, the Mayor deblaring no
meeting will be held Tuesday night because of the General Election. The following Councilmen
were present Tuson, Talen, Kincaid, Cloud, Bishop, Steed and Sommerseth.
.The Water Collectors report was read6to the Council
A letter was read from George S. Clouse with a bill from George Matuska for two
hot water tank elements, for $56.65, which he claims were burned out from the water
being shut off, when the street work was being done. This was turned over to
Attorney for answering. I .
A.letter was read from Sterlin# Miller asking that the street grade be established
.on Edmonds street west of Ninth -avenue so that he may have access to his property.
This was referred to the Street committee for consideration.
A'Je'tter.was read from Mrs. Lela Fry, who resides at 502 Hebe Way, asking for per-
mission to have a houbbetrailer on her property, to house a relative of hers.
A letter was read from Pantorium Laundry in regards to replacing the sidewalk, curb
and gutter 6n Main street, in front of their place of business. Attorney Holte is
to answer the letter.
This was the night set for the second hearing on the sewer for the north end district.
A number of the property owners were present. After some explanation by Engineer
,Middleton, Mayor Maxwell and Attorney Holte a motion was made by Councilman Tuson and
seconded by Councilman Kincaid that Attorney Holte :draw up a resolution of Intention,
setting up a Local Improvement District. Motion carried.
A letter was .read by Mayor Maxwell from the Snohomish County Fire Protection District
#13, acknawlbdging the service given them, with an enclosed voucher for $200, the
„balance due us for 1956. Also they would like to continue with our agreement *Afi. .

council confirm the appointment, effectivd January 1. Motion carried.
Mayor Maxwell read a letter from the Edmonds Chamber of Commerce asking to have
Fourth Avenue from Main to Bell street a one-way street with parking on both sides.
This was referred to the s4.gety Committee.
Attorney Holte §4/d,lpresented a petition for annexation for lot 5, Block 7,
Alderwood Manor #9. A -motion was made by Councilman Talen and seconded by Councilman
Bishop that a hearing on the annexation be set for November 20. Motion carried.
Bob McGinness came before the council asking that the approach to Daley Street from
Seventh avenue be made accessible. This was referred to the.street committee.
The bill of $343.36 as prepared by Supt. Lawson for damages done by the contractor,
Washington Asphalt -Paving Co., was asked to be presented to the contractor.
A motion was made by Councilman Kincaid and seconded by Councilman Talen that the
bills as approved by the auditing committee be allowed and warrants .be drawn on the
proper funds. Motion carried..
A motion w4ks made by Councilman Tuson and seconded by Councilman Sommerseth that
interest warrant No. 4 be issued to Ace Construction Co., for $2526.20 on L. I. D.
#78, Cedar Street Sewer. Motion carried. -

-The Counci-;net for its regular session with Mayor Maxwell presiding. The roll call
showed the following Councilmen present Tuson, Talen, Cloud, Bishop, Steed and
Sommerseth.
The! Treasurers report was read to the Council
This being the night set for the hearing for the annexation of lot 5 Block 7 of
Alderwood Manor Plat,#9, and there being no protests, a motion was made by Council-
man Tuson and seconded by Councilman Talen'that Ordinance No. 684, annexating this
property to the City of Edmonds, be passed, effectibe December 4, 1956. Motion carried.
The proposed plat of Daviorson Addition, between eighth and ninth "Atenus on Casper street
was referred to the Planning Commission.
A motion was made by Councilman Tuson and seconded'by Coai�g9that, Ord.
No. 685 to transfer monies in the water department to la or, i e amour of $4000,
be passed. A roll call vote showed Tuson yes, Talen yes, Cloud yes, Bishop yes, Steed
yes and Sommerseth yes.

for bids for Liability Insurance January 2. Motion carried.
Robert VanDla c came before the council in regards to the repairing of his sidewalk
at First and Main street. He stated because he has had to replace the bulkhead twice
which was caused from the water washing the dirt from his building and now under the
sidewalk, he felt the City should help him with the cost of replacing the sidewalk.
This matter `was held in abeyance for two weeks.
A motion was made by councilman Talen and seconded by Councilman Bishop that the City
call for bids for fuel oil for next year for the City Hall. Motion carried.
Attorney Holte was requested to write the West Coast Telephone Company, informing them
that the Council is considering a Utility Tax of 1%, and request that a representative
of the company be present at our December 4 meeting.
A motion was made by Councilman Talen and seconded by Councilman Bishop that a hearing
for annexation to our north city limits be set for December 4. Motion carried.
