Concert Introductions, A.6.4thAvenue Interim Projects MINUTES —June 2, 2014—Otness MOVED, Rathvon SECONDED, Approved. REPORTS A. Creative Programs WOTS — Laurie Rose has started working on the conference. The brochure was her first priority and is now printed. Registration begins July 28. The next committee meeting is in September. Commissioners discussed the possibility of hosting one of the presenters. Literary Walk— Otness reported that the event which EAC is helping sponsor and organize is scheduled for Saturday September 13, 9:30 to 12:30. It is called "Chapter By Chapter: A Literary Sampler for Readers and Writers." It will start at the Library with Bernadette Pajer, move to the Edmonds Conference Center for a panel on writing tips, meet at the Edmonds Bookshop for a presentation on publishing, and conclude with a poetry reading by Kathleen Flenniken at the Hazel Miller Plaza. Various suggestions were made for publicizing the partnership event. Public Art — Chapin reviewed the potential public art opportunity at the Library which was discussed at the June meeting. At this point both the Friends of the Edmonds Library and the Edmonds Arts Festival Foundation have expressed interest in assisting with the funding. Discussion followed about the possibilities for celebrating both visual and literary arts. The budget was discussed and a consensus was reached that this project should have a total budget of at least $100,000. Muir Moved that the EAC support the installation of public art at the Library entry area in 2015 and budget funding in partnership with other entities to bring the total to a minimum of $100,000. Saether Seconded, Motion Approved. 4. 2015 Tourism Promotion Awards — Maloney and Chapin reviewed with commissioners the six applications and the following amounts were recommended for awards: CSO $2,000; Driftwood $2,000; OBT $2,000; Arts Studio Tour/EAFF $1,000; SnoKing Chorale $1,500; Phoenix $1,500. Rathvon Moved and Muir Seconded that the allocations be recommended to the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee for inclusion in the 2015 budget, Motion Approved. Edmonds Arts Commission Draft Minutes — 7/7/2014 2 5. Concert Introductions — Commissioners discussed the schedule and made adjustments. The introduction and general instructions were reviewed and will be emailed out. 6. 41" Avenue Interim Projects — Commissioners discussed the ideas presented by Benson Shaw. The top three for commissioners were adding lights, decorative cross walks, and the small parklet. It was suggested that the parklet might be in a second phase. Commissioners concurred with holding a stakeholders meeting on July 14 to bring together residents, property owners, and businesses to explore possibilities. Chapin will schedule the meeting and contact potential participants on the corridor. B. Capital Projects Cultural Heritage Tour — Chapin confirmed that the dedication for Stages of History will be at 5 pm on July 17. Muir helped arrange for and is donating part of the fee for a giant chicken puppet to be part of the event and Rathvon will donate cookies. The artist, Judith Caldwell, will lead a tour of the twelve sites. The brochure is still in draft form but the whole project will be completed by the end of August. C.
