MINUTES — Sept 8, 2014— Otness MOVED, Rathvon SECONDED, MOTION Approved.
REPORTS -
A. Creative Programs
WOTS — Commissioners commented on the success of the Reception with about 150 people there at
the peak. The Mayor and the President of EdCC both attended and were introduced. Otness reported
that it was a very successful weekend and many good comments were received from conference
participants. The keynote gave an excellent presentation, but more time is needed for folks to get
back to the FAC. Thanks were expressed by Chapin and Otness for all the help given by
Commissioners during the weekend. The Steering Committee will meet in two weeks and a full
report on the evaluations and financials will be completed in November since Laurie has limited work
hours.
4th Avenue Cultural Corridor Interim Art Projects— Chapin reported that the presentation at City
Council was made on September 23rd. Next steps include contacting artists to invite to create design
concepts for the various elements.
3. Literary Walk— Otness, Chapin and Rathvon reported on the Literary Walk. It was attended by about
25-30 people on a beautiful day. The introduction session at the Library was excellent, followed by a
panel at the Conference Center, publishing information at the Bookshop, and a poetry reading at the
Hazel Miller Plaza. Commissioners agreed that the timing, two weeks before WOTS, wasn't good and
suggested holding it in early summer.
4. Community Cultural Plan — Chapin discussed implementation of the Community Cultural Plan (CCP)
strategies. She will send out a summary of the specific strategies in the five areas of interest, asking
Commissioners to review and indicate their greatest area of interest. Commissioners expressed
interest in having the Communications consultant attend an EAC meeting and report on the calendar
work.
