REPORTS -
A. Creative Programs
Crosswalks Project/BID— Chapin briefly presented the background regarding interest the BID has had in
creating decorative crosswalks at the entry areas to downtown. She has participated in previous meetings
with Public Works regarding the project. The material proposed is standard white torch down cross walk
material custom cut to create simple design elements that represent Edmonds. Carrie Hulbert from the
BID presented current draft designs proposed for the two pilot program decorative crosswalks at 51" and
Howell and at 2nd and Main. Commissioners discussed the designs and made some suggestions, agreeing
that it is a good project and the draft designs are going in the right direction. Staff approval will be
requested for final design elements.
2. Write on the Sound —Kaplan and Chapin reported that registration opens on Thursday July 20 with the
new registration system through CVENT. Kaplan noted that it is a strong line-up and asked Commissioners
to review the website and FB page. Muir, Shaw and Sharp mentioned that they will be available to
volunteer during the conference weekend.
3. Rain Works Project - Commissioners discussed the request from EPIC to partner on funding for the
temporary art project that EAC is trying out as a pilot during Write on the Sound. EPIC has some funding
and EAC agreed to provide the standard temporary art fee of $500 for the poetry fragments at up to 7
different sites on downtown sidewalks. Muir Moved and Shaw Seconded approval of funding for the
temporary poetry fragments project, Approved.
4. Public Art Brochure — A draft was reviewed for design of the new one page three fold public art brochure.
Commissioners thought it was attractive and contemporary and look forward to seeing the final product.
Some discussion followed about ways to promote it.
5. Summer Concerts— Chapin will email out the schedule once City Council sign-ups have been completed
and a reminder about process, including picking up the box earlier in the week and introductions. Staff is
creating a flyer for the Music at the Library series that will be handed out at the Sunday concerts. Look for
the flyer in the concert box. The first concert is July 9.

6. On the Fence —Two new proposals submitted by Mona Fairbanks were reviewed and the Commission
approved both for the 61h Avenue fence with dates to be determined. Muir Moved and Sharp Seconded
that the proposals be approved for the fence, with location and schedule to be determined after
discussion with the artist, Approved.
B. Capital Projects
C. Funding & Administration
1. Economic Impact Study Update — Chapin, Muir, and Maloney gave a report on surveys during the Arts
Festival. Information to organizations about the organizational survey that will be requested from all the
arts and culture nonprofits and businesses with a specific focus on the arts will be sent out in August.
Rathvon volunteered to help distribute information on the survey at the OBT performance, and Muir and
Walzer volunteered to do surveys at the upcoming Art Walk. Chapin will send out a list of upcoming
events and Commissioners will pass out information encouraging people to do the surveys at concerts.
2. 2018 Draft Budget Discussion — Chapin gave an overview of the three special funds and suggested that
the budget would be very similar to the past year. Some projects have not moved ahead so the funds will
be reallocated for 2018 (e.g. Library public art project). After discussion the Commission concurred that
Chapin would prepare the final budget to present at the September meeting for approval.
STAFF REPORT— Chapin reported that the wayfinding sign at 5th and Main will be replaced later this summer.
