Mayor Maxwell read a letter irom'the American -Legion requesting a street light on
Dayton Street, east of'Sixth Avenue, because of a dark area east of the building.
A'motion was made by Councilman Tuson and seconded'by'Councilman Sorensen that the
P. U. D. be authorized to install the light. Motion carried.
Mayor Maxwell also brought up about the installing of street lights in the newly
annexed territory. A motion was made by Councilman Tuson and seconded by.Counci]man
Cloud that the P. U. D. have their Engineer proceed with the'plan for installation
of street lights in the newly annexed areas. Motion carried.
The group of people rdsiding on Ninth Avenue North were present at the council meeting.
After some discussion and explaining by Mayor Maxwell, Attorney Holte and the Council-
men) a number of people were still not in -favor of making a 50 foot street. A motion was
made by Councilman Cloud and seconded by',Councilman Sorensen that the recommendation

from the Planning Commission be rejected. An amendment to the maotion made by Council-
man Tuson, thatuthis be turned back to the Planning Commission for making the street
narrower. The amendment failed for want of a second. A vote on the motion carried.
In regards to Mr. Neal having water to his property on Second Avenue, a motion was
made by Councilman Tuson and seconded by Councilman Cloud that Mr. Neal is to pay for
five meters and he is to take care of extending the line to lots 9 and 10, then we will
install a four inch line and a hydrant on Alder street west of Third Avenue. Motion carried.
A recommendation feom the Water Committee for water on 19lst. S. WO A motion was made by
Councilman Tuson and seconded by Councilman Purton that we will serve them with water,
but they are to pay the complete cost on installing a four inch main, with the City paying
the difference in cost for the six inch pipe. Motion carried.

The Council met for its regulat session with Mayor Maxwell presiding, The roll call
showed the following Councilmen present Tuson, Sorensen, Cloud and Kincaid.
The Water collectors report was read to the Council.
A petition for sidewalks and curbs on Third Avenue was read to the Council, and was
turned over to Attorney Holte for checking of signatures. If sufficient signatures
are on the petition, Attorney Holte was authorized to draw up a Resolution of Intention,
by a motion made by Councilman Sorensen and seconded by Councilman Kincaid. Motion carried.
A letter from Oake Lake Heating Co., 216 5th Avenue was read to the Council. He asks to
have the two hour parking in front of his place of business removed, and a space of 15
feet be allowed for a loading zone, with 8 feet allowed for the doorway. A motion was
made by Councilman Sorensen and seconded by Councilman Kincaid that the space of 23 feet
be granted, and a Resolution be drawn up, with the stipulation that the owner is to put
in the driveway, under the supervision of the City Supervisor. Motion carried.
A letter from I. V. Evans was read to the Council, asking for a street grade on Spruce
Street, East of Ninth Avenue. A motion was,made by Councilman Kincaid and seconded by
Councilman Sorensen that Engineer Reid establish the street grade. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Councilman Tuson and seconded by.Councilman Cloud that change order
#1 for the sewer Treatment Plant be approved. Motion carried.
A letter was read from�nEngineer Reid stating that the street improvement in Munger Addition
No. 5, has been satisfactorily completed, and the City of Edmonds holds sureties from the Devi�o
eloper, for construction of Water and Street improvements, and Engineer -Reid recommends that
these sureties be realesed to the Developer. A motion was made by Councilman Kincaid and
seconded by Councilman Sorensen that these sureties be released to the Developer. Motion carried.
Mr. A. F. Frederickson is to obtain a petition from Attorney Holte and have the property
owners sign it, for the vacation of Tenth Avenue North from Bell to Edmonds Street.
A letter from Mr. Everett was read to the Council, asking for permission to use the
property located -at 232 3rd Avenue North, known as Edmonds Feed Store, for boat storage
purposes. He was authorized to go ahead with the changes proposed.
A motion was made by Councilman Tuson and seconded by Councilman Kincaid that the P. U. D.
be authorized to install 23-300 watt lights and 2-500 watt lights in the new annexed
territory, services to start January 1, 1958. Motion carried.
A map for street naming in the new annexed territory was prepared by Engineer Reid, and
an unofficial meeting is to be 1h1bl-Ai at our next meeting night.
A motion was made by Councilman Kincaid and seconded by Councilman Sorensen that
we call for bids for the construction of a lavatory building for the City Park,
August 20. Motion carried.
A•motion was made by Councilman Kincaid'and seconded by'Councilman Sorensen that we
call for bids for a dump truc%, for the street department, Sept. 3, as per specif-
ications. Motion carried. I � .
A motion was made by Councilman Tuson and seconded by Councilman Cloud that the bill
for $814.00, due the Tax Commission, as per their audit of April,1955, be paid. Motion
carried.
A motion was made by Councilman Tuson and seconded by Councilman Kincaid that the
hearing on Emergency Ordinance ##702 be set for August 20. Motion carried, .
Attorney Holte presented a bill from Mrs. Talen, Second Avenue North, in the amount of
4345;50, for the rockery and shrubs that were destroyed when the didewalk was put in.
A motion was made by Councilman Kincaid and seconded by Councilman Sorensen that the
bill be paid upon completion of the work and a.release is signed. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Councilman Sorensen and seconded by Councilman Kincaid that as
addition to the City Code Chapter 9 "rticle 9; a recommendation from the Planning Com-
mission, that the right-of-way for 12th avenue from Main street to the South line of
Lots and 24, and a 25 foot Service Lane along the North line of Tract 28 and 15 feet _'-
along the South line of Tract 27, to be incorporated in and made a part of the official
map by reference, be passed. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Councilman Tuson and seconded by Councilman Sorensen that we accept
the addition to the Official Code for the Regulating and installingand alteration of
Gas Piping or Gas Appliances in the City of Edmonds, Motiori carried.
A motion was made by Councilman Tuson and seconded by Councilman Sorensen that a Utility
Tax be made a part of our City Code, to be passed on October 5. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Councilman Kincaid and seconded by Councilman Soremsen that we accept
the recommendation from the Planning Commission, that Glen street be projected westerly
from loth Avenue to 9th Avenue, and that the right-of-way be 20 feet in Width, 10 feet on
either Bide of the centatline of Tract 8, Puget Sound Machinery Depot 5 acre tracts, and
that Mountain Lane be widened to a 20 foot right-of-way between 9th and loth Avenues by
the addition of 7.5 feet from Tract 6. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Councilman Cloud and seconded by Councilman Tuson that the bills as
approved by the auditing Committee be allowed and warrants be drawn on the proper funds.
Motion carried.
A motion was made by Councilman Tuson and seconded by Councilman Sorensen that interest
warrant #2 be issued to Terry Thompson in the amount of $10,67,2..98, on L-. I. D. #79.
Motion carried.
The meeting recessed until Tuesday August 13.
August 13, 1957
The -Council met for its recessed meeting with Mayor Maxwell presiding with•the following
Councilmen present Tuson, Sorensen, Kincaid Cloud and Purton.
A motion was made by Councilman Sorensen and"seconded by Councilman Kincaid that the
hearing. on assessment roll for L. I. D. ##79 be set for Sept. 24. 'Motion carried.
A motion was made 'y Councilman Tuson and seconded by Councilman Purton that Ord. #r740
the'Gas Franchise Ord. be passed. A roll call vote from the Council Tuson yes, Sorensen
yes, Kincaid yes, Cloud yes and Purton yes.
A motion was made by Councilman Sorensen and seconded by Councilman Tuson that a hearing
on the petition of annexation be set for August 27, upon verification of signatures to
be made by Attorney Holte. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Councilman Tuson and seconded by Councilman Sorensen that a hearing
on Resolution of Intention #129 be set for Sept. 24, Third Avenue sidewalks and,curbe.
Motion carried.
