Resolution 282PLANNING COMMISSION RESOLUTION NO. 282 A RESOLUTION TO THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS RECOMMENDING A REVISED AMENDMENT TO THE OFFICIAL ZONING ORDINANCE, SECTION 12.13.280 E, TO ESTABLISH HEIGHT AND SIZE CRITERIA FOR SIGNS IN THE GENERAL COMMERCIAL (CG) ZONE, IN ACCORDANCE WITH PLANNING COMMISSION FILE NO. ZO-7-67. WHEREAS, the Planning Commission of the City of Edmonds, at the request of the City Council of said City, reconsidered in public meeting a proposed amendment to the Official Zoning Ordinance, Section 12.13.280 E. to establish height and size criteria for signs in the General Commercial (CG) zone; and WHEREAS, having made the findings set forth in Exhibit "A" attached hereto, the Planning Commission determined that the Official Zoning Ordinance, Section 12.13.280 E, should be amended as set forth in Exhibit "B" attached hereto and revised from the original proposal and recommendation set forth in Planning Commission Resolution No. 265; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED by the Planning Commission of said City that recommendation be and the same hereby is made to the City Council of the City of Edmonds that Section 12.13.280 E of the Official Zoning Ordinance be so amended. Undesirable examples of 50 and 60-foot tall signs are already appearing in the South County area on service station and shopping center sites. Also, the sign size regulations are extremely difficult to administer. The 300 square foot permitted sign size limitation penalizes large commercial properties while it is much too liberal for small properties. EKHIBIT "B" Section 12.13.280, E: 1. Signs and advertising structures shall not exceed the building height permatted in the zone. 2. The total sign copy area or sign background area shall not exceed 20% of the building facade area or one-half (1/2) square foot for each lineal foot of lot frontage, whichever results in the larger sign area. Where frontage is on more than one street, only the signs computed with the frontage on that street shall fare that street. Maximum letter height in a facade sign shall not exceed 20% of the facade height. The area of free-standing signs shall be computed as part of the 20% of the building facade area. 3. Signs and. . . .
