DATED as of the 15th day of October, 1969. Chairman, Edmonds Planning Commission Edmonds City Planner File No.: ZO-4-69 Initial Request by: City Council Date of Hearing: October 15, 1969 ZO-4-69 Resolution No. 319 EXHIBIT "A" The Planned Unit Development concept is valuable to the City in that it creates certain opportunities otherwise not avail- able. As the.City's population continues to grow, the many vacant lots and wooded hillsides in the'City will gradually be replaced by urban development. The.purpose of the planned unit provisions is to encourage flexibility of design in residential areas to offset the.monotomy of lot -by -lot devel- opment extending mile after mile. In other words, these provisions encourage the incorporation of recreation areas, open spaces and greenbelts within residential neighborhoods. Although the present ordinance may be criticized from various standpoints, it is very similar to the ordinances of other nearby communities. Since the Board of Adjustment has clari- fied.certain key sections, the.ordinance is a worthwhile tool which should be retained until an improved ordinance is adopted.
