This matter was referred to the Planning Commission by the City Council at its meeting of July 20, 1971. The City Planning. and Engineering Departments prepared and presented to the Planning Commission a recommended align- ment for a future street in this area based on a study of the topography, existing utility easements, etc. There were no objections from the audience to the plan, and it is my personal opinion that the proposed alignment is a good one. A majority of the Planning Commission voted "no" on a motion to amend the Official Street Map. (I did not partici- pate in this matter because my home property abuts the area under consideration.) No alternative. street alignments were considered by the Planning Commission. :ply appeal is based on two reasons. First, the request from the City Council was for the Planning Commission to determine and recommend the best access plan alignment. A` Planning Commisssion resolution to deny the proposed amend- ment is contrary to this request. Second, applications have been received to plat and subdivide property in this area. These applications have been denied primarily because of inad- equate access. It is certainly in the best interest of both the City and the property owners to have a well planned and adequate street system. a:I" CLEM< .....
