EDMONDS PARKING COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES
September 4, 2012, 3:30 PM
Present: Kristiana Johnson, Adrienne Fraley-Monillas, Stephen Ross, David Thorpe, Ron Wambolt and
Karen Wiggins.
Meeting was called to order at 3:40 PM. The meeting minutes for July 18, 2012 were approved.
Currently there are 9 Rideshare and 373 Employee Parking Permits for the year. A continued slight up-
tick as pointed out by Karen.
Edmonds resident Stephen Ross came to the meeting to present his case for getting more SOUNDER
PARKING. He was the spokesperson for about 10 to 15 citizens that use the train but are getting
frustrated with the lack of parking in and around the Sounder Parking lot. He presented seven aerial
photos. The first six were the area from of Railroad Ave to State Route 104, with Main at the North end
and Dayton at the South. The seventh photo took a wider shot of the downtown with some streets
highlighted (Railroad Ave., James St, Admiral Way, 2"d Ave and Alder St).
The first six showed before and after shots of the area and how the parking has been greatly reduced
since the new parking lot and the transit center were constructed.
Sounder Parking Lot 2010 before improvements- 256 parking spaces. Now there are 147 for a loss of
109 spaces.
The North lot where the transit is today had 108 parking spaces in 2010. Now there are 21 spaces. A
loss of 129.
The third photos show an area described as Sounder Edmonds South Lot with 148 parking spaces in
2010 and now down to 126. A decline of 22 spaces.
The last photo were proposed Temporary Street parking for Edmonds residents only, Monday thru
Friday with a 12 hour limit.
Mr. Ross presented a very clear problem that the committee has been working on for some time. The
idea of having a permit for Sounder Parking only will not work because the City cannot shut out other
people such as ferry riders, transit riders or for that matter anyone else. Kristiana brought up the idea of
a "zone" for commuter parking. As has been discussed in the past, the committee will continue to look
at streets that may have the ability to handle some commuter parking. Also a continued look at
implementing a parking permit for commuters.
No information on Brackett"s Landing parking.
No information on 3 hour limits on 6th Ave. N. or on 200th St. SW across from Maplewood Elementary.
One question was asked if the ridership numbers for the SOUNDER train for 2010, 2011 and 2012 could
be obtained.
Meeting adjourned at 4:34 PM.
Next meeting is on October 3, 2012.
