City of Edmonds Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services Department PRESENT: Tanya Sharp Lesly Kaplan STAFF Pat Oneill Rhonda Soikowski Frances Chapin Marni Muir Beverly Shaw Starkovich Ashley Song Isabella Wilhelm, St Rep Excused: The meeting was called to order at 6:05 PM by Tanya Sharp, Chair INTRODUCTIONS — MINUTES — Approval of July 15 minutes, Oneill Moved, Muir Seconded, Approved. REPORTS - A. Creative Programs AUDIENCE 1. Concerts — Commissioners reported that the last concert at City Park was very popular. Gansango managed to put on a great show even though members called in sick. Tingstad and Rumbel were popular as always. The shows at Hazel Miller were all good, although construction noise from the Dayton Street project was an issue for Santa Poco. Commissioners noted numerous positive comments about the opening acknowledgement of Salish traditional lands. 2. On the Fence — Staff has observed a need to add clarification for artists about meeting expected proposal concept and scheduling. Commissioners reviewed proposal by Rae. Kaplan Moved and Muir Seconded Approval for the Rae fish/whales installation to be scheduled on FAC fence, Approved. The Fairbanks installation is ready and will be installed at Civic this month. 3. Creative District —Song reported on the recent meeting of the branding committee. The survey for 4th Avenue is complete. 4. Write on the Sound - Kaplan reported that registration is basically closed. The volunteer tasks will be assigned more by activity this year. Monday Sept 30 is the packet stuffing at 6 pm, Oneill and Song volunteered to assist. 5. Nominations —Sharp and Chapin asked Commissioners for comments on the position description. Shaw will be ending her second term in December and the position for 2020 will be advertised soon. 6. Exhibits — Shaw reported that five are already scheduled for 2020. One she particularly likes is a photo exhibit of people reading that will be in the Library during WOTS. B. Capital Projects C. Funding & Administration Edmonds Arts Commission Minutes - 9/9/2019 2 STAFF REPORT— Chapin gave a quick update on the Waterfront project. She asked Commissioners if they were interested in putting a display up in the Library entry case this winter about what the Arts Commission does and Commissioners responded in the affirmative. Chapin also noted that October is national Arts & Humanities month and typically EAC has a proclamation at City Council. This year it will be on Tues. Oct 1.
