NOTE No. 5—Trenches in street must be water settled and surface of street restored to original condition. Contractors shall be responsible for failure due to improper
work which may develop within one year of completion.
NOTE No. 6—It is unlawful to alter or do any other work than is provided for in the permit, or to do any work on the main sewer or its appurtenances except to in-
sert the pipe into the wye.

THE WATER CONSUMPTION THROUGH OUR METER WAS ALMOST 3 TIMES THE
NORMAL AMOUNT. WITH ALL OUTLETS IN THE HOUSE SHUT OFF THE METER
STILL INDICATED WATER FLOWING THROUGH THE METER. OUR BILL THRUOGH
2-17-93 SHOWED 1400 CUBIC FEET USED, WHICH IS NORMAL FOR US. THE
BILL THROUGH 4-16-93 SHOWED 4400 CUBIC FEET.USED. TH..'
THE WATER DEPT. WAS CONTACTED ON MAY 4,AND RESPONDED. IT WAS
DETERMINED THERE WAS A LEAK DOWNSTREAM FROM THE METER. THE MAN FROM
THE WATER DEPT. WATCHED AS I DIPPED WATER FROM THE WATER BOX TO READ
THE METER, THIS WATER BOX HAS NEVER BEEN FLOODED BEFOR.
THE LEAK WAS DISCOVERED AT THE SOUTH SIDE OF"THE PATIO, BEHIND
BEHIND THE HOUSE. A CRACK HAD DEVELOPED IN THE PIPE 18" UNDERGROUND.
THIS WAS REPAIRED AT ONCE WITH ABOUT $3.00 WORTH OF PLUMBING MATERIAL.
IT WOULD BE APPERICATED IF SOME ADJUSTMENT COULD BE MADE IN THE
WATER BILL FOR THE BILLING PERIODS 2317-93 THROUGH 5-4-93.

On November 3., 1978 during the evening
hours the basement at 1028 Cascade Lane,
Edmonds was flooded due to the City of Edmonds'
failure to have adequate storm drains and/or
the negligent maintenance of such drains.
The plugged drains on or near Olympic Avenue
caused the flooding of the basement,.
The downstairs was saturated with wa-_er and mud.
Everything that touched the floor received some
sort of stain. Carpets had to be removed and
c hairs and tables cleaned and rewaxed. Many
items molded before they cou ld.be salvaged.

Gentlemen:
I am writting this letter at the request of Mr. Nims of your office. It concerns
a lot at 1028 Cascade Lane. I am attempting to build a residence on this lot.
The reason this concers the Engineering Dept. is the ground water that crosses
the lot.Jn order to have room to build on this lot the stream had to be diverted
where it emerged from the culvert on the abutting property. The new stream bed is
quite close to the foundation of the structure. Mr. Nims agreed to the diversion if,
in writing, I would absolve the City of Edmonds of any blame should the stream cause
damage to,the structure. I do so absolve the City of any blame, provided the City.does
not increase the volume of water in the stream by increasing the size of the l81nch
culvert.
I hope this will meet with the approval of the Engineering Dept. Thank you for
your consideration.
