This has brought to our attention that your residence is not yet connected to the sewer system that is available to you. The Edmonds Community Development Code (Section 18.10.010) requires that the owner(s) of any house in the City of Edmonds that is within 200 feet of a sewer line must connect to the sewer system within 60 days of it being available. Your residence is within 200 feet of the Edmonds line, but you will not be required to connect because it would be necessary to either acquire an easement across private property, install a grinder pump if the fall for a gravity system is not sufficient, or install a side sewer of significant length in the City of Lynnwood right-of-way. Although we will not require you to connect to the City of Edmonds sewer system, I strongly encourage you to contact the City of Lynnwood and request to connect to their sewer main on Olympic View Drive, as there is a history of septic system failure in the Perrinville area. Because of this, it may be financially advantageous to you to connect before your system fails. This would allow you time to obtain multiple quotes from contractors, instead of being forced into an emergency situation where you may have to hire the first available contractor. If your septic system fails, you will be required to connect to the sewer main at that time. In addition, septic systems create environmental concerns. Septic systems seep into our groundwater, and in your case, feed into the Perrinville Creek. This affects the habitat (aquatic and land) surrounding the tributary, which then flows into Puget Sound. Please don't hesitate to call Pamela Lemcke or me at the City of Edmonds Engineering Division, 425-771-0220, if you have any questions. Sincerel K. GEBERT, P.E.
