SUBJECT: Request to Cut Trees in Right -of -Way (John Byrd)
On September 2, 1988, a request was submitted to cut two trees in the
right-of-way of Olympic View Drive north of the property at 8706
Olympic View Drive. The trees in question are a large fir tree and a
maple tree.
Resolution 418 outlines the City's official policy with regards to the
cutting of trees on public property. I conducted a site inspection and
found that none of the criteria for removing the trees has been met.
They are not a sight distance hazard. No disease is apparent and no
public utilities appear affected.
I see no reason to cut the trees down. Some limbing of the lower
branches on the fir tree could be allowed.

1. Applicant must comply with applicable provisions of Chapter 18.85 of the Community
Development Code of the City of Edmonds.
2. No trees or plants shall be used other than those specified on this Permit
All permit conditions must 'be adhered to.
3. Where removal of publ ic' trees is involved, the applicant shall cause to.have.
the trees taken out by the root, where possible, the holes completely filled
and all debris cleared away at his expense.
4. Adequate barricades must be provided to safeguard the public. At night a
sufficient number of lighted barricades shall be placed between sunset and.
sunrise. Sidewalks must be kept clear at all times for use by pedestrians.
5. The application for permits must be made at the Planning Department not less
than 48 hours in advance of the time the work is to be done.No work shall
commence until the permit has been issued.
6. Notice of completion shall be given within five (5) days.to the Planning
Department.
