The investigation was conducted by HEMPHILL CONSULTING ENGINEERS at the request of Bruce O'Neill of Design Works Construction. INVESTIGATION Dale C. Hemphill of HEMPHILL CONSULTING ENGINEERS conducted a geotechnicai investigation of the site and determined that the entire site is underlain by glacial till overlain by a sand outwash. The investigation was conducted by a visual study, and by observing excavations for utilities. Figure 1 shows a plot of a section of the site based on a topographic survey shown in Figure 2- HEMPHILL estimated that the worst condition that would occur within the lifetime of the house would be that the slope would erode from weathering to an angle of 40 degrees, as shown by the 'potential final slope' shown in Figure 1. That slope is the approximate angle of repose of the weathered soils as measured on parts of the slope where eroded soils are observed. The final slope would be the result of the sloughed soils building up from the bottom of the slope and protecting the steeper natural soils from the weathering processes that include wetting and drying, freezing and thawing, direct rainfall, root action, and surface runoff. The slope must be protected from erosion by surface runoff by the future owners. CONCLUSIONS The investigation and calculations indicate that the risk of instability (a massive landslide) is minimal because of the great strength of the slope soils. The maximum encroachment from the existing edge of the slope due to the loss of soil from weathering will be 40 feet, which will not encroach upon the proposed structure. 921 109'- AVENUE S. We feel that careful consideration must be taken in the placement of homes on these lots. In order to guarantee the safety of the eventual owners of these homes, an engineering/geological study is required in conjunction with building permit applications, to be reviewed by the Engineering Division. Also, a drainage plan per Ordinance No. 1924 will be required prior to recording of this subdivision.
