Request for Additional Info re Trees at 17708 OVD.pdfMachu a, Jen From: Machuga, Jen Sent: Wednesday, April 18, 2012 1:08 PM To: 'ConsultingArborist@msn.com' Cc: 'John Stann' Subject: Trees at 17708 Olympic View Drive Dear Mr. MacCoy, I received the tree hazard evaluation forms that you prepared for 11 trees located on Mr. Stann's property addressed 17708 Olympic View Drive and have a few questions for you. The failure potential assigned to all of the trees was the number 3, which corresponds with a high failure potential. However, when reading through the forms„ the information for the majority of the trees states that they are in decent health, don't have any major pests or diseases, and the roots are in good condition I'm wondering why all of the trees were assigned such a high failure rating when the majority of them appear to be in good condition. Also, I noticed that the rating you assigned for each tree based on the "size of part" is not consistent with the diameter at breast height for most of the trees and I'm wondering why these numbers are inconsistent. Is the "size of part" rating referring to something else? Thank you in advance for providing additional explanation of your determination on these trees. Although our code allows for removal of trees that are posing an imminent danger without the need for a tree cutting permit, I am having a difficult time seeing the imminent danger based on the tree characteristics, health, and root conditions described in the evaluation forms. If these trees are not posing an imminent danger, the owner of the site will need to apply for a tree cutting permit. Regardless, replanting will be required. For the removal of hazardous trees posing an imminent danger, replanting must be at a ratio of two -to -one. What would your recommendations be for species and location of replanting? Sincerely, Jen Machuga Jennifer Machuga, Associate Planner City of Edmonds, Planning Division 121 - 5th Avenue North Edmonds, WA 98020 (425) 771-0220 ext. 1224 Machuga@ci.edmonds.wa.us • rigallam DEVEWPMENS" SERVICE$ COUNTER A Photographic Guide to the Evaluation of Hazard Trees in Urban Areas TREE HAZARD EVALUATION 2nd Edition Site/Address:.; .....t".— q5t'a"y a " !- 5i %9 O Map/Location: Owner: public _ _— private unknown —_n .__ other Oatrr +" " . t - a (I Inspector. For: Mr. Lee Stann and Mr. John 5tann : Dear gentlemen , John - thank you for sending me you email. I understand that you will help get this report to Lee and the city of Edmonds. On Tuesday , 3 April , 2012 , I visited the home of Mr. Lee 5tann at 17708 Olympic View Drive in Edmonds , 98026. My visit was arranged so that I could look at a row 11 hazardous trees on the west side of the property - in the back yard. I've drawn a diagram of what I saw. The numbers represent mostly Douglas - fir's ( DF ) and 3 Big Leaf Maples ( BLM ). # 10 is a Cherry. Their diameters are: 1.) DF , 19 inches , 2.) DF , 22 inches , 3.) BLM , 8 inches , 4.) DF , 21 inches , 5.) BLM , 10 inches , , 6.) DF ,17 inches , 7.) triple BLM , 15 + 13 + 12 inches , 8.) DF , 11 inches , 9.) DF , 16 inches , 10.) Cherry , 9 inches , and 11.) DF , 17 inches. Al of these trees are hazardous to your home. I recommend their immediate removal. The contact person for this work is Mr. Ted Wagoner at 206 - 930 - 0523. Please call if I may be of any further assistance.
