MONUMENT SIGN AT 505 5TH AVENUE SOUTH
Dear David:
I have reviewed the above building permit application for the Planning Division. As
proposed, the sign cannot be approved. Internally illuminated signs in the Downtown
area must meet specific conditions found in Section 20.60.020.M of the Edmonds
Community Development Code. Most importantly, internally illuminated signs must be
wall mounted (20.60.020.M.3) and they may only light the letters, not the background
(20.60.020.M.2). As an alternative, an externally illuminated monument sign of similar
shape and size could be permitted as long as meets the illumination criteria found in
ECDC 20.60.020.
