To Whom It May Concern:
I have reviewed the above building permit application for the Planning Division. As
proposed, the replacement of the two existing pin-mounted A.G. Edwards signs with
internally illuminated Wachovia cabinet signs cannot be approved. Internally
illuminated signs in the Downtown area must meet specific conditions found in Section
20.60.020.M of the Edmonds Community Development Code. Most importantly,
internally illuminated cabinet signs may only light the letters, not the background of the
sign face (20.60.020.M.2). In each case, it appears that the internal illumination would
light the entire sign face. As an alternative, replacing the existing A.G. Edwards signs
with Wachovia signs of like construction could be approved. Otherwise, please indicate
how the proposed cabinet signs meet the identified code requirements.
