The Fire Department has the following comments on the proposed rezone:
After reviewing the project I would conclude the addition of the mixed use buildings
would have a minimal impact on our department.
Life Safety issues are addressed in the applicable codes and applied during plan
review and building construction to assist the Fire Department during emergency
responses. The codes also become more restrictive as the building height and size
increases. This is to the occupants and first responder’s advantage during these
conditions.
For a comparison the number of calls generated in the past two years from the Point
Edwards project was approximately 30 fire responses (to include medical, fire and
service calls). Although Point Edwards has no commercial business within the project
the number of residential units finished and occupied at present is, I believe,a fair
representation of what we might expect.
In conclusion the addition of the project to the downtown area would not hinder the
operations of the Edmonds Fire Department.
