The venue is a former Safeway Store measuring more than 20,000 square feet, and is being redeveloped into a mixed multi-tenant retail market in the southern half and a regional fine art museum in the northern half. 190 SUNSET RESTAURANT 190 Sunset is a stylish midrange (AKA affordable) restaurant turning out approachable local favorites. The menu is a celebration of food and wine from the Pacific Northwest. All though the design of the restaurant is somewhat chic - it is family friendly and casual. The menu features an ever changing variety of what we call “foods for all moods” and focuses on seasonal, local cuisine. It offers a substantial amount of “shared plates” which are small appetizer size plates perfect for sharing and grazing while enjoying a glass of wine or one of our craft cocktails. The focal point of the operation is an exhibition style kitchen where guests can enjoy the theater of their food preparation. 190 Sunset’s design has the feel of “understated elegance” where guests can feel as comfortable coming in off their boat in shorts and dock siders for a gourmet burger and an ice cold beer as they would “dressed to the nines” for an early dinner before the ballet or the opera. It offers an affordable dining alternative for the entire family. The Goal of 190 Sunset is not to be the place that you just take your spouse on date night but instead where you can take the entire family any night of the week. The Restaurant has a private dining room for up to 70 along with several other areas for large parties. In addition, 190 Sunset Restaurant can host cocktail parties for 100+ and up to 60 seated for weddings or corporate functions in the beautiful Cascadia Art Museum. 190 Sunset Bar 190 Sunset Bar is the local gathering place and social club of Edmonds. The large, curved bar allows for some great people watching and is situated directly across from the Restaurant’s active, fun exhibition style kitchen. Here the focus is on old fashioned hand-crafted cocktails and features a large wine list with an emphasis on wines of the Pacific Northwest. The substantial bar overlooks one of the largest decks in Edmonds. It faces the south and therefore provides for maximum sun exposure. Its huge glass doors fully open to allow the “outside in” and the “inside out” and features dramatic colorful landscaping. With the flick of a switch an electric roof opens and closes so guests can enjoy outdoor drinks or dining during all four seasons. When wind or rain becomes an issue, another flick of a switch brings see thru blinds down that help eliminate wind or rain while providing for seamless outdoor dining all year long. Several gas fire places and heaters provide for a warm and cozy setting during cool summer evenings or long winter nights. The Bar will feature live music on the weekends. 190 Sunset Market (Phase Two) 190 Sunset Market is a purveyor of fine gourmet foods, wines and gifts. Here we want to share with you our passion for food and wine of incomparable quality. Our mission is to find and provide to our guests a fun and unique array of the world’s finest options for cooking, eating, drinking and entertaining. Our European style deli cases feature an array of our fresh hand-cut aged Nebraska steaks and chops along with fresh Northwest grown poultry and the freshest seafood products around. 2 In addition guests will find and ample array of local artisanal slow-cured meats and both local and imported cheeses. 190 Sunset Market is that one stop place before heading to the boat, beach, or island and of course the must stop shop for the ingredients and wine for that perfect meal. If cooking is not on the agenda - the Market also features a variety of pre-prepared entrees such as our world class chicken parmesan or our famous Village meat loaf with home-made serrano ketchup or our cold poached salmon with cucumber dill sauce. These home meal replacement (HMR) products are designed to cater to busy working (often dual income) households and those living alone. The HMR category is one of the fastest growing segments in the food service industry today. Hours of operation: 11 AM to 10 PM Monday thru Thursday and 11 AM to midnight (or later as business dictates) on weekends. On weekends we will open at 8 AM for brunch. The Venue: The gateway to this educated, affluent and loyal community, Salish Crossing is one of the most visible redevelopment projects in Edmonds. It is the ongoing transformation of what later became the old Waterfront Antique Mall into the new Salish Crossing complex. The building itself will feature an open, spacious interior that capitalizes on the original architecture. The new lighting fixtures, landscaping, concrete retaining walls with embossed art and reconfigured parking are giving the area a new look and attracting considerable local attention. In addition to 190 Sunset Bar, Restaurant & Market, the new center will feature Cascadia Art Museum which is dedicated to the Legacy of Northwest Art from the 19th century through the mid-Modernist period. The museum will offer state-of-the-art climate control; allowing it to host exhibits that include delicate, environmentally-sensitive works, making Edmonds one of the few places in the region where these can be displayed. The 11,000-square foot Museum will focus on the work of Northwest artists such as Mark Tobey, Guy Anderson and Morris Graves. It will include facilities for lectures, education and enrichment, and will house both permanent and traveling exhibits in five galleries. Retail businesses will include Scratch Distillery, 190 Sunset Bar, Restaurant & Market, Brigid‘s Bottle Works, Top Pot Donuts (who will build their flag ship store here which features a deck on the upper level) and Spuds Fish & Chips among others. The exterior will offer enhanced public amenities, landscaping and walkways. A notable feature, the south-facing landscaped terrace, will add another great outdoor space for Edmonds. The parking area will offer ample space (175+) for visitors (parking is a rarity in Edmonds) while continuing to provide additional parking for 500+ Sound Transit commuters who begin and end their day at our location. The redevelopment is expected to be complete early fall of 2015. 4 The Team: President & CEO 190 Sunset was created by veteran chef and restauranteur Tom Budinick. Mr. Budinick has twenty plus years of high volume food service experience. He began his career at the age of 14 with Ward Enterprises which operated two of Seattle’s premier fine dining establishments, The 13 Coins and the El Gaucho. Mr. Budinick worked all thru the management ranks of Ward Enterprises while studying Hotel and Restaurant Management at Shoreline Community College. At age 21 he was promoted to Executive Chef for the company’s newest venture, Roses in Bellevue Washington. Mr. Budinick was then recruited by Restaurants Unlimited (RUI) which operates a 50+ unit chain of upscale full-service restaurants including Palominos, Palisades and Cutters Crab House. Mr. Budinick worked at several of the chains restaurants including, Morgan’s Lake House and Scott’s Bar & Grill and opened the company’s newest restaurant concept, Triples on Lake Union. Later he went on to join Pillsbury’s S&A Restaurant Group where he managed several high-volume Bennigan's locations in Houston and Dallas Texas. In 1992 he founded Midwest Pretzel Inc. which owned and operated a highly successful chain of Auntie Anne’s Soft Pretzel franchises in Missouri, Illinois and Kentucky. Midwest Pretzel stores ranked within the top 10% of a 1000 unit chain in terms of revenue. Mr. Budinick was nominated and became President of the Auntie Anne’s Franchise Advisory Council. Mr. Budinick is also the founder of Caliente Concepts, LLC and has created and operated several successful restaurant concepts including The Plaza Café, Freshworks Cafe & Smoothie Bar, Habaneros Taqueria (a multi-unit chain), and The Agave Grill. He also co-founded the popular Atomic Cowboy restaurant and Nightclub in St. Louis, Missouri which recently celebrated its ten year anniversary. Mr. Budinick is a past recipient of the Entrepreneur of the Year Award by the Entrepreneurs' Organization (EO). The award recognizes Mr. Budinick for his leadership and entrepreneurial efforts in the community. Executive Chef & Director of Operations Steven Anderson is a graduate of the Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Program and has an undergraduate degree from Mesa College in Food Service Operations where he graduated with honors. Mr. Anderson has worked for both country clubs and hotels and has been the Executive Chef of some of the Northwest’s most iconic restaurants including McCormick & Schmicks where he worked for several of their locations in Portland, Oregon including their flagship restaurant- Jakes Famous Crayfish. In 1995 he was given responsibility for opening their first Seattle McCormick & Schmicks location as Executive Chef. He later joined Ray’s Boathouse where he helped redesign and reopen the restaurant after a devastating fire. For the past 14 years Mr. Anderson has worked for both Ivar’s Salmon House and Ivar’s Mukilteo Landing where he has served as both Executive Chef and General Manager. Here he supervised 5 multimillion dollar renovations for both locations. Under his leadership he helped grow revenue from $2.4M to $5.5M with the same amount of tables at Mukilteo Landing and at Ivar’s Salmon House he grew revenue to over $8M, breaking all-time records. Training & Development Ken Batali has spent more than 25 years in the restaurant industry. During his career, Mr. Batali has contributed to the success of numerous organizations. As the Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Restaurants Unlimited (RUI), he led a diverse group of 25 high-end, full-service restaurants including Palisades, Palomino’s and Cutters Crab House concepts to peak performance levels of service and profitability.
