All portions of this project are assumed to meet or will meet other departmental requirements, conditions and concerns before permit approval. RECEiVED JUN 0 4 2007 DEVELOPMENT SERVICES 1 STRUCTURAL COMMENTS CALCULATION 1. Lateral loads analysis. Package submitted for review is missing seismic calculation, there is only wind load calculation can be found. Please provide copy of balance of calculations or indicate why only the wind load governs the lateral load design. 2. Provide diaphragm design to make sure the maximum diaphragm dimension ratio (4:1) is within code limit per IBC table 2305.2.3. Provide design, detail and calculation for each diaphragm chord, collector, drag force, boundary element, blocking, and strap. Please indicate the assumed dimension of diaphragms in your calculations. 3. Provide drag strut analysis calculation along grid line 5 since the shear wall have to sustain lateral loads coming from both garage and maim building. Drag strut connection detail should be provided for wall openings. DRAWINGS 4. General -- Fasteners for preservative -treated and fire -retardant -treated wood shall be of hot -dipped zinc -coated galvanized steel, stainless steel, silicon bronze or copper. Coating weights for zinc -coated fasteners shall be in accordance with ASTM A153. Reference Section IBC Sec.2304.9.5 & IRC Sec. 319.3 S. Sheet 52.2 & 2.3, Interior shear walls, do not line up with framing lines above. Provide section cutfdetails to address diaphragm load path continuity. In other words, what is the connection between the floor and the wall? Is it good enough to resist the lateral shear force? IBC section 1620.2.6. Collector element. 6. Sheet S 2,2, Can't find shear wall symbol along grid line A & A.2 in the garage. Is it the design intention to have this cantilever diaphragm? If it is, please check deflection and verify the adequacy of the diaphragm. 7. Sheet S 2.2, It appears the 2- ft long shear wall SW -4 between grid line 4 & 5 along E does not comply with the maximum shear wall aspect ratio per IBC table 2305.3.3. Please clarify. 8. Sheet S 2.2, Please call out naturally durable woods or treated wood for the structural members that are exposed to weather, such as the deck framing and so on. Reference to A3.1 building section C -C, D -D. IBC. 2304.11.5. 2 9. Sheet S 2.3. It appears that some of the E -W direction shear walls are missing. Please resolve. 10. Sheet S 3.3. Detail 27 shows deck frame member to rim are connected by nails. Wood deck attached to the exterior wall shall be designed to resist both vertical and lateral loads. Such connection shall not be accomplished by the use of nail subject to withdrawal per IRC R 502.2.1 Additional corrections may be required following receipt of corrections and additional information as requested Your plans are being reviewed concurrently with the Building Department, Fite Department, Zoning Department and Public Works Engineering. Changes, clarifications or additional corrections may be required subsequent to the Building Department plan review when comments are received from the other concerned departments.
