Excavation Monitoring The site soils have been vertically cut about 8 .feet. The soils consist of bedded sand, gravelly sand, and sandy gravel. The soil is dense to very dense about 3 feet below the existing ground surface. There is no water seepage. The vertical cut is not sloughing and appears stable. (Prepared document titled, "Open. Cut and Elimination of Shoring," dated August 8, 2007) Erosion Control: We recommended that additional silt fenciing be added on the west side of the rock construction entrance and that geotextile filter fabric be installed in the existing stormwater catchbasins in the street. Excavation Stability Monitoring The temporary cut along the south property line has been made. The top is out at about l H: i V. The rest of the cut is near vertical. The soils are dense and the cut appears to be stable. No signs of sloughing or instability was noted. Erosion Control Additional silt fencing has been added west of the rock construction entrance and geotextile filter fabric has been installed in the street catchbasins. The erosion control appears to be acceptable at this time. Soil Bearing Verification The site soils in the footing areas are dense and will support the allowable 2,000 psf soil bearing pressure, based on probing with a 1/2 -inch steel rod. East Footing Lime The upper east footing is located at the top of an 8 foot tall near vertical temporary out. Loads should not be put on this footing until after the lower basement wall is constructed and is backfilled. The wall backfill will be supporting the upper footing, so tl-te backfill should be compacted to strutural fill specifications. It is recommended that the basement wall be backfilled with croshed rook, or a similar material, that can easily achieve structural fill compaction specifications. For safety purposes, persons should not compact between the wall and cut until there is less than 4 feet of backfill remaining to the top of the cut. Excavation Monitoring The temporary cut along the south property line continues to appear stable. No sloughing or other signs of instability was observed. Erosion Control The site erosion control appears to be acceptable at this time. We understand that the City's inspector requested that the temporary cut slope be coveted for erosion control. It is our opinion that the cut slope should be left uncovered at this time in order for the stability of the slope to be monitored. Although the rains to date have been relative light, there has been no sign of erosion on the temporary cut slope. Slope movement or instability would be masked if the slope was covered.
