Since the detention pipe does not have a access port and it has a section with a reduced diameter
connecting to the flow control manhole, a vent pipe should be installed. A vent pipe should
connect the larger detention pipe to the control structure
Regular CMP should not be used for detention pipes. The City has accepts the following materials
for stormwater detention pipes on private property:
o Non -reinforced concrete
o Aluminized steel (Type 2) 14 gauge or better
o Corrugated HDPE (watertight), ASTM F2648
o PVC -SDR 35, ASTM -3034 or better
o Ribbed PVC, ASTM D-2444
The responsible engineer shall ensure the material chosen meets or exceeds the loading
requirements on the pipe.
