The construction of the new footing and foundation (see foundation plan page A9 - gridlines E and F) will enclose what was once exterior to the existing dwelling. A section of the building sewer, located below this area and extending to the west (see site plan page A4), will by definition become building drain. The plumbing code lists allowable materials for use as building drains and building sewers, and sometimes a piping material can be used for both. Upon inspection, if it is determined that the section of existing sewer and now building drain is of a material not allowed for that new use, it will need to be changed. A side sewer permit may be required (check with the Engineering Division). Since no plumbing plans need to be submitted for work within residential construction, this was not required to be shown. However, adding a note on the building plans may help guide the construction and plumbing efforts and help avoid re -work after inspection. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
