During a review of the plans for the above noted project, it was found that the following
information, clarifications or changes are needed. Please provide written responses as to where the
changes can be found on the plans, cloud all changes on the revised plans, and submit the revised
plans/documents to a Permit Coordinator. Thank you.
On page 3:
1.Provide the size, grade, and species of the timber/lumber for each of the framing members
used to construct the lean-to. While the lean-to may seem insignificant in comparison to
the larger structure, it is subject to (and has to withstand/support) the same wind and snow
loads. Even if built as a separate structure, its size alone would require it to have a permit.
On page 9:
2.Clarify the callout for 5/8 in 3 anchor bolts. The minimum code requirement for
embedment depth of cast-in-place anchor bolts is 7 inches per R403.1.6. Installation of
wedge-type expansion bolts placed 3-1/2 inches deep (approximately a 6-inch bolt to allow
for 2x bottom plate, ¼-inch thick plate washer, and nut) is an acceptable alternative.
3.Clarify the callout for 2 plate washers. The minimum code requirement for plate washers
are 3x3x.229 per R602.11.1.
In addition to these notes, and since most of the work has already been completed, comments have
been added to the construction documents indicating that field verification will be required for
certain items noted on the plans. Among these are the height of the structure, the depth and size of
the footings supporting the exterior walls and the point loads below the beams, and the addition of
posts supporting the north-most and south-most ends of the 4x8 ridge beam (at the 9 spans) to
allow its use at those locations. Considerations were taken regarding other elements shown on the
plans that, while not exactly as required by the code, will perform equally and provide for the same
health, welfare, and safety.
