Dear Mr. Miller,
This letter is our request to deviate from a UL listed fire rated wall assembly and consider the
existing condition per the alternatives materials, design and methods, IBC section 104.11. The
proposed bearing walls along the exterior of the building are required to be fire rated same as
the floor/ceiling assembly for the 2 -hr separation between the B and R occupancies. However,
the existing exterior CMU wall provides 2 hours protection on the exterior side so we are
proposing the required 2 -hr fire rating only be provided on the inside face. The wall type we are
proposing is based on UL design U301. Please see the attached submittals for your review,
comment and approval.
