Dear Mr. Holt:
The fire department has had opportunity to review your project due to the size of your structure.
Fire hydrant spacing along the street is properly installed; however, due to the total (fire) area of the
structure an automatic fire sprinkler system will be required.
Install a fixed fire protection system in accordance with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)
13D, Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems in One- and Two-Family Dwellings and
Manufactured Homes, or other approved and nationally recognized standard.
Fire department has approved your building plans and your sprinkler plans may be deferred. Please
contact a fire sprinkler designer/installer as soon as possible, as it will be important to properly size
your ground installed supply piping to accommodate both domestic usage with fire protection needs.
Two permits are required for this installation:
1) Fire connection plans identify the system supply connection from city water to the bottom
of the sprinkler riser. In the typical case for a dwelling using a multi-purpose supply line
(for domestic and fire protection demands), a licensed plumber may conduct the
installation for the project. Proper accounting must be made for domestic fixtures in order
that reasonable simultaneous water use will not impair fire protection water demands.
2) Fire sprinkler plans identify the sprinkler riser, piping, valves, alarm and system
requirements for fire protection needs. Included with the plans must be the hydraulic
calculations developed for your unique installation.
Sprinkler systems require periodic maintenance. A covenant will be required for this purpose to
maintain the viability of the automatic sprinkler system. The covenant will apply to all future property
owners and successors.
