We visited the site today at the request of John An of Evergreen Contracting to for geotechnical and earthwork
consultation for the Weis Single Family Residence project located at 16630 74th Place West in Edmonds,
Washington.
We visited the site to evaluate the existing condition of the northwestern corner of the foundation, as the
foundation was poured the previous week. The foundation was poured on top of a combination of 2 to 4 inch
spalls with a thin lift of 1.25 inch minus crushed rock. We did not observe any signs of cracking within the
poured foundation, and the exposed portions of the backfill did not appear to have shifted with the additional
weight of the concrete foundation. The backfilled subgrade extends approximately 6 feet beyond the western
exterior side of the foundations western wall.
While on site, we evaluated the foundation in the southwestern corner of the residence. In our letter titled
"Geotechnical Plan Review Letter — Weis Residence Development —16630 74th Place West — Edmonds,
Washington — NGA Job No. 9887B-18," dated June 14, 2018, we recommended that the "lower western and
western 25 feet of the northern and southern residence foundations be embedded a minimum of four feet into
the native glacial soils encountered within the site". We evaluated the soils within the slab areas with a %: inch
diameter steel probe rod. Probing yielded penetration of less than 2.5 inches under moderate pressure, which
we interpreted as medium dense, and was consistent with our evaluation of the subgrade within the footings.
The foundations appear to have been embedded the four feet into the native glacial soils per our
recommendations within the plan review letter.
We will continue to monitor the site during the excavations on a part-time basis, and are available to return to
the site for additional geotechnical consultation and earthwork construction monitoring services upon request.
