Comments:
-MTC on site as requested to visually inspect the structural steel and field welding of the following items noted below. At this time MTC
verified the welder's WABO certification and welding procedures. Welding noted below was observed to comply with the visual
requirements of AWS D 1.1 and the project plans/specifications. MTC conducted the inspection off of the revised structural plans dated
05/24/2017.
-Welder: Mark S. Priest WABO #W20557 October 1, 2017
-Process/Consumables: FCAW using 1/16" ESAB Coreshield-8 E71T-8
-Structural steel for the deli canopy framing grid lines (C-17/6)
*In reference to MTC structural steel visual report #1782573 dated 07/11/2017, MTC noted that a lift was not available to visually inspect
the welds above eye level. At this time a lift was available and MTC was able to visually inspect the welds for the following items.*
1.) MTC observed the completion of the complete penetration welds for the L2-1/2"x2-1/2" canopy frame mitered corners per detail 1 on
sheet S2.01. MTC observed the fit up of the 6 canopy frames to be a pre -qualified double sided square groove TC-LI-GF per AWS D1.1.
MTC notes that only visual inspection is required since the size of the weldable steel is only 1/4" thick. Ultra Sonic testing is not required
on steel less than 5/16" thick per AISC 360.
2.) MTC observed the completion of the 5/16" flare bevel groove welds for the attachment of the C6xl3 channels to the existing and new
HSS 5x5 columns per sheet S1.00 and detail 1 on sheet S2.02.
3.) MTC observed the completion of the 5/16" fillet welds and flare bevel welds for the attachment of the new HSS 5x5 columns to the
new HSS 5x5 roof beams including the HSS 5x5 sister column stub for the connection at grid lines (E-F/6) per detail 12 on sheet S2.02.
4.) MTC observed the completion of the welding for the connection of the new HSS 5x5 beams to the new and existing HSS 5x5 columns
at the canopy height and the tie rod height per detail 4 on sheet S2.02.
5.) MTC observed the completion of the stitch welding for the attachment of the new channel to the canopy height HSS 5x5 beam for the
connection of the canopy frames per detail 10 on sheet S2.02.
6.) MTC observed the completion of the 5/16" fillet welds for the attachment of the 3/8" plate between the canopy frames and channel per
detail 5 on sheet S2.01.
*Wood Framing*
1.) MTC observed the installation of the A35 clips at 24" on center for the attachment of the new 3x6 ledger to the existing roof sheathing
at the new HSS roof beams grid lines (E-F/6) and (C-D/6) per detail 2 on sheet S2.02. All work was in -compliance with approved plans
and specs.
