Final Report 18140 84th St SW_JACOBSON.pdfGG THE GALLi GROUP Geotechnical Consulting August 28, 2015 TGG Project 1810-3 City of Edmonds Development Services Department 121 5th Ave N Edmonds, WA 98020 Subject: Final Letter for Special Inspections 18140 84th St SW Edmonds, Washington 98026 BLD20140204 Attention: Patrick Lawler This letter is to certify that the special inspections for the above project have been completed and the project work is done. The work was completed in conformance with the approved plans. The following tasks were part of our special inspections: • Temporary Erosion and Sediment Control The contractor installed a silt fence on the downhill side of the activity area. Work was completed during the drier season. • Drainage Installation for Wall The contractor installed back of wall drainage behind the blocks and connected to existing drainage system that routes water to the toe of the slope. • Redirection of Drainage for Existing Impervious Surfaces Existing downspout lines disturbed during construction were directed westward to existing collection system that routes water to the toe of the slope • Permanent Erosion and Sediment Control The contractor negotiated with the homeowner to complete the final erosion control. We requested that the soil below the wall be amended with mulch, topcoated with mulch, and then planted. That work has been completed as of 8-27-2015. Anchor A-11 consisted of 5-ft lead section with 6"-8" double helix installed at 20 degrees per plan. In order to save material costs the geotechnical engineer recommended steepening the angle from 20 degrees to 40 degrees. Contractor recommended switching to triple helix and geotechnical engineer approved. Consulted with structural engineer (CG Engineering) who confirmed that piles had extra capacity for additional vertical load and that the design working load for the anchors was only 8 kips. Structural engineer approved the field change and after anchor A-11 (first anchor installed) was installed the contractor switched to the steeper anchor with triple helices. The result was anchors achieving the minimum req'd depth (15 feet) and testing out at more than 200% of the design working load. The Galli Group load tested anchors A-11 and A-9 in the field against the earth embankment and concluded that the anchors achieved at least 200 percent of the design load without creep of the anchor. Testing was conducted with 60-ton ram and power team. Load testing confirmed that the assumed correlation factor from torque (psi) to axial load was appropriate for the anchors in these soil conditions. Numbering scheme for anchors coforms to that shown on project plans.
