work without permit2.pdf My concern is the intent and letter of the code that requires permits to be obtained prior to performing work regulated by it and the penalties for not doing so. How I see it, is that if all that is needed is a ‘Building Final’ inspection on permit BLD2013-0245 to verify the removal of gypsum wallboard (sheetrock), we’ll do so once a request is made. The anticipated insulation upgrade, and other work allowed once permit BLD2013-0593 is issued, can then proceed without my concern. The code questions submitted via the city website go to assigned members of each of the divisions (Building, Engineering, Fire, and Planning), of which I am not, and to which are not accountable to me. If you prefer to contact me directly with any Building Division, building code related question(s), feel free to do so. I’m a little puzzled by the ‘phasing’ of your project. If inspections (several?) are required for the work that has been performed as part of ‘Phase I’, then it has been done without a permit, and without the oversight of the inspector to verify code-compliance of the work done. The purpose of field inspections is to verify, not to reconcile. Hopefully all will proceed well once the permit is issued.
