2020-09-17 Cemetery Board MinutesCity of Edmonds Edmonds Memorial Cemetery Board Meeting Minutes September 17, 2020 Via Zoom Call to Order Jerry called the meeting to order at 4:03 Members Present: Kerry Radley Joan Longstaff Melissa Johnson Jerry Janacek Members Absent: Tracy Little Guest: Staff Present: Rich Lindsay Angie Feser Honorary Board Member Betty Gaeng Approval of Minutes - August 20, 2020 (no additions or corrections) Finance Report: Not reviewed Staff Report: • Rich Lindsay reports that the Cemetery continues to run smoothly. • The Cemetery has a couple of broken water lines which were easily repaired. • Angie reports that the Mayor has approved the expenditure of a new mower for the Cemetery to be taken from the Fund 137 in 2021. Sales Report - Sales and Services report August 20, 2020 - September 17, 2020 Month Year to Date Projections Grave Sales 2 19 40 Niche Sales 0 3 25 Burials 5 28 55 Inurements 6 11 25 1 Old Business: Joan and Terry will take the OPMA Training this month. The Mayor and Finance are looking at the Cemetery Funds 130 and 137 and what the Cemetery's needs are going forward i.e. capital expenditures and improvements to the Cemetery. Discussion: the Board would like to start the process of exploring an expansion to the existing Columbarium and how we start that process. Angie gave the Board information about how that would work through a formal proposal process and deciding on a time line. The plan would be for Jerry to meet with Angie, for several Board Members to do a Cemetery walk through with Cliff, Rich and Angie and then begin to formulate a plan. New Business: Angie reports that prospective new Board member Ashley Robinson went before the City Council on September 15th and was approved on the consent agenda to join the Board. Jerry and Angie will reach out to Ashley and invite her to the October Board meeting. Comprehensive Plan discussion: Jerry will meet with Angie this month to begin the discussion about this Plan. Announcements: Betty has finished her Edmonds Pioneer Biography project and is currently reviewing and editing it. Kerry proposes that the Board, with Betty's consent and help to use this to launch a virtual tour for the public and school children, possibly working it into the Walk Back in Time event next July. More discussion about how to use the biographies will continue in October. Brief discussion about Memorial Day 2021 and that we would probably use all of the materials and plans that were put together for the 2020 program which was cancelled because of Covid -19.
