Old Business:
• Memorial Day 2021 Planning:
a. Advertising & Publicity - Rich reported that there is $2,400.00 in the cemetery's advertising
budget. Jerry read Ashley's report on advertising ideas and advice. Jerry and Betty will
collaborate on writing up an article and have it ready for the May 3rd meeting. Kim will ask My
Edmonds News to hold May 4th and May 251h for printing information about the Memorial Day
event. Kim reported on the Edmond's Beacon's rates for advertising. All advertising content is
to go to Kim, who will get press releases to the media sources. She will also ask the Public
Works sign shop to make up signs to announce the event. A map of the drive -through route
will be printed in the publicity and advertising information. Dale discussed having advertising
for the event on channel 21.
b. Music - Melissa will check with Pilgrim Media Services on cost and whether they can take care
of the music for the event. A final decision on whether or not to have music will be made at the
May 3rd meeting.
c. Brochures & Poppies - Melissa has not heard back yet from the VFW about getting poppies
for the event. She will contact them again. The format for the brochure as discussed is: page 1-
history of Memorial Day (Betty); page 2 - history of the poppy (Betty); page 3 - information on
the POW/MIA White Table Ceremony and a list of names of South Snohomish County POWs
and MIAs; page 4 - similar to page 4 of the existing brochure with appropriate name changes
and information on the upcoming Walk Back In Time event.
d. Setup at the cemetery for the event - The drive -through event will begin at 11:OOAM and
finish at 1:OOPM. Rich reported the Cole and Ryan will help Cliff put up the flags (about 48) at
the cemetery for Memorial Day. Service flags will also go up. He also discussed having ADA
parking for those people who will just visit the cemetery, and someone to manage the
bathrooms. Police will be stationed at the entrance and exit points of the drive -through route
to direct traffic, and cemetery board members will be stationed at the entrance, exit, and at the
90 degree bend in the route. The brochures with poppies will be handed out by board
members at the entrance to the route.
New Business:
Walk Back In Time - Betty had included in our meeting pack a possible list of additional pioneers for
the Walk Back In Time event. She also reported on her research of those buried in the cemetery who
died of the 1918 Spanish flu. It was decided to continue discussing this event at the next board meeting.
