2021-04-15 Cemetery Board MinutesCity of Edmonds Edmonds Memorial Cemetery Board Meeting Minutes April 15, 2021 Via Zoom Call to Order Jerry called the meeting to order at 4:05pm Members Present: Jerry Janacek Melissa Johnson Tracy Little Kerry Radley Staff Present: Kim Anderson Rich Lindsay Honorary Board Members: Betty Lou Gaeng Dale Hoggins Members Absent: Ashley Robinson - excused absence; Joan Longstaff - unexcused absence Approval of Minutes - March 18, 2021 minutes approved (no additions or corrections) Chair Report • Jerry gave brief comments regarding the April 51h meeting. He also asked that the Memorial Day event be the main focus of today's meeting. Finance Report: No financial report review this meeting. Staff Report: • Rich reported that things are going well and very busy at the cemetery. Sales Report - Sales and Services report as of March 31, 2021. Month: March Year to Date 2020 Actual Grave Sales 0 7 24 Niche Sales 2 8 7 Burials 7 16 35 Inurnments 4 4 12 Old Business: • Memorial Day 2021 Planning: a. Advertising & Publicity - Rich reported that there is $2,400.00 in the cemetery's advertising budget. Jerry read Ashley's report on advertising ideas and advice. Jerry and Betty will collaborate on writing up an article and have it ready for the May 3rd meeting. Kim will ask My Edmonds News to hold May 4th and May 251h for printing information about the Memorial Day event. Kim reported on the Edmond's Beacon's rates for advertising. All advertising content is to go to Kim, who will get press releases to the media sources. She will also ask the Public Works sign shop to make up signs to announce the event. A map of the drive -through route will be printed in the publicity and advertising information. Dale discussed having advertising for the event on channel 21. b. Music - Melissa will check with Pilgrim Media Services on cost and whether they can take care of the music for the event. A final decision on whether or not to have music will be made at the May 3rd meeting. c. Brochures & Poppies - Melissa has not heard back yet from the VFW about getting poppies for the event. She will contact them again. The format for the brochure as discussed is: page 1- history of Memorial Day (Betty); page 2 - history of the poppy (Betty); page 3 - information on the POW/MIA White Table Ceremony and a list of names of South Snohomish County POWs and MIAs; page 4 - similar to page 4 of the existing brochure with appropriate name changes and information on the upcoming Walk Back In Time event. d. Setup at the cemetery for the event - The drive -through event will begin at 11:OOAM and finish at 1:OOPM. Rich reported the Cole and Ryan will help Cliff put up the flags (about 48) at the cemetery for Memorial Day. Service flags will also go up. He also discussed having ADA parking for those people who will just visit the cemetery, and someone to manage the bathrooms. Police will be stationed at the entrance and exit points of the drive -through route to direct traffic, and cemetery board members will be stationed at the entrance, exit, and at the 90 degree bend in the route. The brochures with poppies will be handed out by board members at the entrance to the route. New Business: Walk Back In Time - Betty had included in our meeting pack a possible list of additional pioneers for the Walk Back In Time event. She also reported on her research of those buried in the cemetery who died of the 1918 Spanish flu. It was decided to continue discussing this event at the next board meeting. Announcements: • Betty announced that she'd like to donate her husband's flag to the Edmonds Cemetery.
